got it today :D

loving the references to the previous games and the humour, however they did consolise it WAY too much, feels like a port of a 360 game :/

there are also huge discrepancies in the textures; some things look awesome (like the enemies and the chicks), and other things look blurred to the shithouse. Also not a fan of having to wait around during overly long cutscenes when restarting levels etc.

Yeh the worst thing is definitly the waiting times. Especially once you crank it up to the hard difficulties and die a few times.

Still the most fun i have had for a while playing a shooter

Im sure the next one will be a bit better and have a lot better direction from the start.

Way too much time was wasted on this one doing absolutely nothing.

the blur is weird. bit seems intentional. as it becomes more the faster you move. Load times only seem to be a console issue.

i doubt its a Port as the console load times seem to be very excessive, and its made by Gearbox/ex 3D realms guys who obviously went for the nostalgia angle, which means PC all the way.

it's by no means a Crysis2, but i think thats great as it means even peeps without a stonking new uber computer can run it full detail and smoothly, which in turn will hopefully create more players for online madness!!

Played MW2 the other day after playing this........did well, almost won a few games, but it bored/annoyed the crap outta me....lol

Gameplay overhaul patch

I don't know what to say about this but gearbox head honcho has considered the bad reviews and everyone's complaints about dnf; And has confirmed that the team is working on a major overhaul patch.

Sounds kinda stupid after reading the article.

Also, I don't know what to expect anymore.

strange i cant seem to find any other sources at all that say anything about a patch. Also a bit funny how its all worded too as i doubt very much the head honcho would talk like that about his game

Yeah sounds legit. Did this part not make you think that these guys are trying to do a "the onion" type stories

We had a thought – what if he actually managed to get his hands on some gum? We held a focus group with a whole bunch of gamers and they all gave us one clear, consistent message. Going out and buying gum would be a more entertaining pastime that putting up with the drudgery that is kicking ass in Duke Nukem Forever.

lolwut

sure the next one will be good

IN 46 YEARS WHEN ITS RELEASED

But what investor would give them money after how DNF was essentially roasted in reviews? Bit of a shaky business decision.

Yeah, but Gearbox didn't start from scratch on DNF did they?

If they didn't, they may have earned the benefit of the doubt making a Duke game completely of their own.

I think Gearbox Software brought the Duke Nukem franchise. They got all the devlopment work that 3D Realms did and got Triptych Games (who are ex 3D Realms guys who kept working on DNF) to help them finish the game (also got Piranha Games to help Gearbox with the X360 and PS3 versions)...Gearbox just released what was done with some minor tweaking of their own...

You can tell this game should have been done and released around 1999 (when it should have been) to about 2004.....the graphics are very dated and just looks wrong on today's PC's...

This is basically what happens when George Broussard kept messing around with the game...change engines mid build which would force to start again from scratch and bascially adding stuff in because other games did that just so they can have in DNF...

You can see why Take-Two Interactive got pissed of with 3D Realms was doing and finally had enough....took DNF from them gave it to Gearbox and pretty much said "Give it a small tweak...and release the damn thing"

I would say that Gearbox will do something good with the Duke Nukem franchise...let's just hope it doesn't take another 14 years for the next one to come out

Oh I don't doubt that at all. From what I understand, Gearbox basically finished off what 3DRealms had done and made it how they (3DR) wanted it, and then released it. They just supplied the grunt, as it were.

In their own right though, they might be able to come up with something awesome; who knows? And while I hope a lot of people/investors realise this, you've gotta admit there'll be a lot of people very wary and maybe not willing to give them a go, just being cautious.

If they manage to get another DN game out and it's actually good, then they'll blow everyone's socks off.

  • 2 weeks later...

Graphics are shit. Compared to say BFBC2 or other current games (or even games from 2-3 years ago), the graphics are plain shit. Gameplay is quite enjoyable.

Downloaded it from bitsoup.org

Screw paying for games haha

    • Driveline vibration is resolved. I ended up loosening all my engine mount and trans mount bolts, giving it a good shake then retightening everything and it's gone... Let's just say I was surprised that fixed it.  I've been happily driving it around again but unfortunately put zero time into my direct port/constant pressure WMI setup. I'm on vacation next week, so I'll try and finalize it then.  On a different note, I spent all week fuel/ignition mapping 2x 216L V16 engines. Turbo's were burning glycol and we swapped them out for larger units. We also had planned emissions testing on site, so I figured I'd be there the same week to use their instrumentation and massage any emissions issues out if needed. This was a first for me. Fuel management is similar in certain ways to automotive (i.e air density as load variable) but very different in others. It's all PLC based and AFR's are controlled by air and not fuel. They use a control valve between the turbo and air manifold to control pressure which in turn controls AFR's. Due to this, target AFR tables supplied by the OEM are in pressures and not mass which really through me off. They use air pressure vs fuel pressure tables. I also relied on an O2 concentration sensor the emissions team had in the exhaust. Ignition timing was also all over the place and we were losing a fair bit of power. They're now happily sitting at 16-40BTDC depending on load. We were making about 1600kw at 900rpm at 90% load. Engines were running a lot smoother as well.
    • heh, aint no R32 ever meeting modern targa cage rules unless the driver is veeeery short OP, good luck with the sale, since its already in the land of freedom I'm sure you will find a good buyer.
    • meh, it was a good video, clear about the issue and how he dealt with it. A bit heavy on the RTV and very brave to put an RB in anything without rebuilding it first, but otherwise I thought it was good Dose, I'm not sure that having the pickup forward is a big issue; yes of course the oil could shift under brakes but the sump should never be empty enough for that to be a problem (unless you also have a higher volume oil pump, and that oil can't return from the head to the sump quickly enough)

    • I'd love a Haltech ECU, and Haltech 10 dash. Was having a chat with Rob and Andy @ Haltech when Rob put one in his MR2. First one I'm kind of interested in too, as you can dim it RIGHT down. Andy was saying bright dashes is one of his peeves too!
