so, it could be anything?

sigh

guess ill take it to a mechanic

Idle and missfire problems are always the most fidly to diagnose as there are so many things that could be causing the problem.

I'd be going to a mechanic as well bro.

the only reason i havnt gone to a mechanic yet is because it wont be something simple that they can diagnose quickly, i will be up for a hefty check because they will have to spend a fair amount of time checking everything

my rb 25 s13 starts the same way sometimes up to 2.5 k rpm........ its always done that since i can remember.. it has nothing to do with fuel pump ..got new walbro 255.....

could it be bad timing?

cold start valve? what is that and where is it loated....?

possible factor, would this also cause heavy fuel smell while driving sometimes? how do i check that my fuel pump is working properly?

You didnt specify at what times you were gettng the heavy fuel smells, so I assumed while boosting. Does it smell like there is a fuel leak somewhere? Is your fuel economy really bad?

I highly doubt it is a TPS issue. Try resetting the ECU (If it is a stock ECU) purely because this is a simple test to do.

But if you want to see if its a TPS issue, I think unplugging the TPS will put it into base idle mode anyway, so it will idle without the aid of the ECU (as far as I remember). This mode is usually used to adjust your idle to get it to sit right, so if you unplug the TPS and your idle stays high then it might be an issue with how your idle is adjusted (eg. it is adjusted to high and your computer slowly brings it back down to an acceptable level

Give that a go

I'm not as familiar with R32's as I am with R33's but I think this was discuss a while ago (when talking about adjusting idle) and on the 33's you have to unplug the TPS to get it into base idle mode, but I think the R32's you had to unplug the AAC valve instead to get it into this base idle mode?

I've seen R33's with there TPS not even plugged into anything that still run fine (This is going back a while) so I guess they are much more dependant on the Air flow then throttle position to run

ill check it out and clean it , see if it makes a diffrence....and sometimes my car iddles freakin wierd ...honestly im pretty sure its throwing codes but my ecu light has been riped out ..or something ....when i bought the swapt to put in my s13 the ecu never had a light on it......so i dont know how to check for codes....but it runs good besides sometimes for a split sec when going steddy spedd it cutts off causing a tugging sensation....and when i fully gun it theres a flat spot 5 threw 6 k rpm....i have to let of the throttle half ways and it feels like it acutally goes better that way then fully gunning it.??? but thats another issue now back to the iddle problem....

any pics of how the cold start valve looks like?

o and sometimes my car smells like fuel ...not all the times just at certain times it tends to....lol and i get about 320 miles to the s13 tank..is that bad? sorry for going off topic......

Ok so that depends on if it's raw fuel leaking somewhere or if the mixture is becomming rich

Fuel leak is pretty straight forward. I know vs commodore urea get a blocked breather and certain times fume the cabin with fuel lol

Running rich will either be ECU or tune issue. Or air leaving the system after it has been through the afm. So this would occur only on boost if there was a leak or with an atom bov. At Least that's all I can think of ATM

Any more info you can give?

Did you replace the o ring when you did the pump as soon as you remove the inspection panel that o ring swells and does not seal properly and I got a cas from the wreckers for 80 bucks there like 500 or some ridicouls price like that brand new it's only a 10 min job to replace hard part is making sure your timing is correct afterwards you need to put a light on if or hook up a consult

i think the o ring was a bit loose, so i tightened that up

when i started the car up without the plug at the bottom of the tps plugged in, it idled at 1500 or so, when i plugged in it went to normal, and then i unplugged while the car was running and the car stalled

does this all sound like normal behavior?

    • Been down in Tassie for 2 weeks (a cruise, not a race for once) but spent a little time on her when I got back. I worked out the injector settings in the PowerFC were not correct for nismo 555s, set those to 66% +10ms and added a little air at closed throttle, set the timing (approximately, because it has some weird non 15o cells around idle) and now she starts and idles properly. She purrs like a kitten (ignore the co2 alarm in the background, I did  ) 20250518_171052.mp4 Next step, off for run-in, tuning and alignment!
    • Went to a drift practice day at a local circuit (held on the reserve parking area behind the grandstand) for the first time in about 15 years. Some kei cars were drifting as well, a not so surprising Suzuki Carry truck, and two 1st gen Daihatsu Copens that were converted to rear wheel drive(!) using Daihatsu Boon X4 transfer case, prop shaft and rear diff, obviously omitting the front driveshafts. They looked really fun to slide. I heard that they cost "about half" as much as a Nissan Silvia etc to run.  On the track 'Tech M' a local BMW tuning garage had a customer track day. Mainly recent models but there was one E36 which looked ancient among all the current models. It was cool watching the drifting and then turning around and seeing random people thrashing their M3/4s  central-circuit-drift-practice-2025-05-18-long-yt.mp4
    • I prefer it with those wheels (sacrilege?) 😋 Here's a photo of a fully original one for reference. The price is $350K....
    • I would like to keep it around 15k but if I need more to make it reliable and not have to worry about the car breaking I can go more. It's my project car so I'm just trying g to figure out what needs to be in it i know basic things like turbo cams injectors I'm just unsure of the size and the specifics so I'm spending alot of time on Google and its mostly rb25 and rb26 not alot on neo
