Hey all.

so, me and a friend we're discussing going to japan sometime next year, just wondering a few things.

-What places to go to?

-When the best time to go?

-How much money would a 2 week trip cost?

-ect.

we were planning on staying in tokyo for one week, and we're not sure on the 2nd week.

we would also like to hire a nice car when we're over there (most probably the 2nd week) what would we need to do this?

any help or info would be much appriciated.

thankyou

it also depends on what hotel you want to stay at.. do you want a fancyish hotel? a hostel? e.t.c

i'm staying in tokyo this year for 3 weeks at the shinagawa prince main tower. total cost for the hotel only is only around $2362.50. works out to around $220/night

the 2 week trip that i did in 2008 came to ~$4,000+spending money

Basically comes down to how small or large is your budget.

You can stay in Tokyo area for as little as ¥3,600 a night for a business hotel or up to ¥100,000 for pimping hotel.

If your on a budget and just need a place to crash business hotels are the go.

Often some sort of breakfast is thrown in, its edible but I'd be buying a few extras from convenience store for snacks.

They have the basics..TV ,Internet , Bed , Shower,Toilet and just enough room to swing a cat.

Car rental you can pick up from ¥5000 a day for a small K car and upwards from there.

You'll just need an International licence and your passport.

Jan/Feb is a good time as if you time it right you have Tokyo Auto Salon, HKS Premium Day, Osaka Messe and there should be a few drift events on as well.

Japan's summer is the best time if your there to chase candy..and there's plenty of it on tap.

ha ha ha, i already have some candy.

yea we wont be going for a pimpish hotel, somewhere in between i think. Y know maybe like $100-$200 a night would be fine.

so January/Feburary hey? maybe it'll be 2013 then.

another question, whats the go with visiting tuning shops? like is there an etiquette?

also what the language gap like over there? will i need to take a translating device of some specification? or is there enough english speaking around?

If you are just doing tourist type stuff you will be fine using only English, almost everyone in Japan has at least 6 years of learning English, most have 12 years. Many people will be embaressed to speak it but you will survive. Most train maps, street signs etc are in English and Japanese. Just dont expect to go to some dark alley with a tiny Ramen shop and discuss metaphysics with the owner and you will be fine. People are extremely understanding with foreigners.

  • 1 month later...

Jet* have had some spastic deals of late, $519 return flights!! You can find basic crashpad style hotels for 2000 yen per night thats like $22. small room but if you just using it to sleep who cares.

    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
