hey all, i will be in the market for an r33 gtst skyline in june, i have budget of $19000, but want money left over for mods, im willing to spend between $17000, and $17500 for a decent car. with the left over money i want to spend it on mods that will get me into the high to medium 13 brackets, i would like any info on how thish could be achieved, with around $2000, taking into account that the car i will buy will probably have an exhaust and an air filter, any hints, or ideas? please help.

Lightened flywheel is one way to go - but can make the car harder to drive and hard to launch properly..

another way is a full turbo back exhaust, pod and a bit more timing.. that and perhaps a bleed valve for a bit more boost should see you with a late 13 easy....

I bought an R33 with exhaust and pod. I have bought a power FC and boostcontroller with has got me to 13.7

This would be slighty more than 2 grand with retail prices, however the same basics would be availabe with a Air/fuel computer e.g AFC and a boostcontroller. Both could be yours for as little as $500 ( if using the 2nd hand route)

Say hello, listen to peoples various suggestions. Take what you think is best and go with it.

welcome to the community :D

The lightweight flywheel fitted to my old car did nothing to make the car harder to launch or drive. I put one in my car and there was no issues at all. I didn't think you had a lightweight flywheel in your car Cam, perhaps it has a balance issue or something.

If you want a flywheel that has been tested by a few then the ogura 4.8kg is a sure bet.

No issues with balancing - it's a stocker.. A light flywheel by design will make the car rev harder and faster, but will also loose momentum easier than a stocker if not taken into account when launching and during normal driving..

Anyways - a high 13 should easily be within reach with some or all of the mods listed..

b005t,

the fuel ecconomy is slightly better (accelleration uses more fuel than cruising obviously). The car will slow down faster (engine braking) when the throttle is shut in gear, coasting you do with the clutch 'in' therefore no difference.

The car is easier to launch and nicer to drive , any comment's to the contrary are incorrect speculation.

I believe the lightweight flywheels are now $600 or less, a bargain!

When I get the gtr I'll be fitting one to that for sure.

yes it would have an adverse effect on an auto since the auto has no clutch and flywheel to begin with :starwars: . Bottom line ios you can't do this mod to an auto.

Auto's benifit from modifications to the stall convertor and valve body tho'. the first increases the stall rpm and torque multiplication for great launches. The second increases the speed at which the auto can be shifted and reduces the 'slip' into each gear.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
