New seats - Take 2

IMG_2298.jpg"

So after my first pair of Drift Blade (R34 GT-R style) seats fell apart at a previous skidpan night. I got myself a refund and went on a hunt for another pair of seats. After weeks of searching I came across a supplier that made Bride “style” seats that didn’t break the bank.

I know what you’re thinking, “what a poser, buying fake parts blah blah blah” lets face it. We’re not made of money! Anyway, I was expecting the quality of my Frides (as I like to call them) to be on par with the Drift seats, but to my surprise they are far superior. All the bolts used on the seats are stainless steal, the material is durable and the seats feel solid.

The real test was whether the seat would hold up when I’m pushing the car to it’s limits. So far they have been great! One day when I have money to burn, I’ll have the real deal, but for now I am more than happy to rock these. Let’s just hope they last a while. If anyone is interested in getting hold on similar seats, feel free to contact me.

haha yeah mate ive seen that car around the micra forums looks good,

yeah mines just a runaround while i sell the skyline and buy a house,

did the seats come with rails to fit the stag?

The seats come with universal rails, so you can either weld mounting plates for the rails, or buy a universal set suited to a specific car (like autotechnica) and modify the mounting points for the seats.

Oh yeah,

Driving sports have a skid pan on Monday from 9-5!

Should be good, I've never been to a day time event before believe it or not.

Only wet pan though which is lame, but it'll still be fun.

Ready for Sunday, Adam?

What's on Sunday?

I've put the car up for sale, but I'm pretty sure it won't be going anywhere. The market is slow for these kinda cars huh.

Had some fun on the skid pan yesterday, car had no issues at all as usual. Boy, a full day really takes it out of you though!

After not even three months of having it??!!

Not to mention the time and coin you've spent on her?pinch.gif

I've had it for a little over four.

I don't see it going anywhere, anytime soon though.

There are that many cars for sale at the moment, many at stupidly low prices, and none of them are budging.

Call me selfish, but im hoping yours doesnt sell so I can continue to follow this thread

I just need a cardigan to suit eh?

So, found some photos of my rig

Looks chunky

I rike this photo, needs some sort of front lip though. More low would be cool, but that's not possible on the BC's by the looks of it (for the front anyway), I know, amazing right?!

    • Yeah, it's getting like that, my daughter is coming over on Thursday to help me remove the bonnet so I can install the Carbuilders underbonnet stuff,  I might get her to give me a hand and remove the hardtop, maybe, because on really hot days the detachable hardtop helps the aircon keep the interior cool, the heat just punches straight through to rag top I also don't have enough hair for the "wind in the hair" experience, so there is that....LOL
    • Could be falling edge/rising edge is set wrong. Are you getting sync errors?
    • On BMWs what I do because I'm more confident that I can't instantly crush the pinch welds and do thousands of USD in chassis damage is use a set of rubber jacking pads designed to protect the chassis/plastic adapter and raise a corner of the car, place the aforementioned 2x12 inch wooden planks under a tire, drop the car, then this normally gives me enough clearance to get to the front central jack point. If you don't need it to be a ramp it only needs to be 1-1.5 feet long. On my R33 I do not trust the pinch welds to tolerate any of this so I drive up on the ramps. Before then when I had to get a new floor jack that no longer cleared the front lip I removed it to get enough clearance to put the jack under it. Once you're on the ramps once you simply never let the car down to the ground. It lives on the ramps or on jack stands.
    • Nah. You need 2x taps for anything that you cannot pass the tap all the way through. And even then, there's a point in response to the above which I will come back to. The 2x taps are 1x tapered for starting, and 1x plug tap for working to the bottom of blind holes. That block's port is effectively a blind hole from the perspective of the tap. The tapered tap/tapered thread response. You don't ever leave a female hole tapered. They are supposed to be parallel, hence the wide section of a tapered tap being parallel, the existince of plug taps, etc. The male is tapered so that it will eventually get too fat for the female thread, and yes, there is some risk if the tapped length of the female hole doesn't offer enough threads, that it will not lock up very nicely. But you can always buzz off the extra length on the male thread, and the tape is very good at adding bulk to the joint.
    • Nice....looking forward to that update
