hey guys i dont use my modified stagea much these days and looking to purchase a house so im thinking of selling it but unsure what it is worth and if anyone would be interested in such a setup, or maybe its better to strip it back to stock and sell all the parts off?

im not too fussed if i sell or not, i have had the car since 2004 (and been on theses stagea forums since then), it has undergone alot of changes in that time, and recently featured in Performance Imports magazine with the old setup it had. It is no where near as modified as it was in the magazine as i got a defect notice and decided to make it completely legal and put the modified engine into a track only gtr instead.

The mod list is pretty long but here is the basics to give you an idea...

rb30 bottom end, freshly rebuilt with new pistons (not forged but stronger than stock, they are called Endurotec and made by Precision), its got a crank collar on the crank, all assembly was washed, machined and balanced. Has done about 2000km so far. It has a gtr oil pump on it, brand new water pump, new tensioner and idler pulleys, new timing belt and all new seals, and hks drag metal head gasket 1.2mm.

rb26 head is also recond and in as new condition with all standard rb26 gear.

The block also has a "Pro Engines" 4wd sump adaptor kit fitted to allow for the gtr 4wd sump to be used.

this is a copy and pasted list of the mods i can remember...

heres a couple of pics of the motor and car itself

i have full engineer reports for all mods and engine conversion/brakes/etc, the only mod not approved is the single turbo, i can put stock rb26 twins back on it and take abit of money off the price and then its fully legal. The engine block is stamped as an rb26 so no worries as no one can tell its a rb30 at all, passed the inspections with no dramas.

this is a pic with stock turbos on it and looks completely standard to the untrained eye. You can put some upgraded low mounts on it and make heaps of power without any issues with police etc.

twinturbosetup.jpg

The current setup is only roadtuned but making around 350hp at wheels, and cam timing hasnt been touched yet so has alot more in it, and should make low 400s without any dramas or reliability issues at all.

so what would you guys think it is worth?

As sad as it is, the money you have put in. Is going to be many times what younwd get for it, it looks maybe too far to go back to stock, As finding an engine etc wd out weigh wat an s1 is worth. Let alone the scare factor when you tell people its not factory engine etc. The motor alone wd fetch ~10k dont we think? Other than that ur breaks, handelind mods n gbox wd get u a bit more. Strip it n move on..?

yeah likewise, i would have bought it pretty dam fast a few months ago, but if you strip it, let me know how much the brakes are, hawttttt

btw, dont strip it or sell it, just hold onto it and use it when you can

What's it worth? A lot more than you could ever sell it for.

Plan A - just keep it (what are you towing your track car with?)!

Plan B - stick a price on it that you would be happy with and wait for someone to come on this forum looking for a good C34 and buy it.

Plan C - if you must sell it wait until you can organise an engine swap with someone - I would have paid someone $10k and given them my old engine for one like yours - (and as many other bits as they can afford) and then sell it.

    • The rain is the best time to push to the edge of the grip limit. Water lubrication reduces the consumption of rubber without reducing the fun. I take pleasure in driving around the outside of numpties in Audis, WRXs, BRZs, etc, because they get all worried in the wet. They warm up faster than the engine oil does.
    • When they're dead cold, and in the wet, they're not very fun. RE003 are alright, they do harden very quickly and turn into literally $50 Pace tyres.
    • Yeah, I thought that Reedy's video was quite good because he compared old and new (as in, well used and quite new) AD09s, with what is generally considered to be the fast Yokohama in this category (ie, sporty road/track tyres) and a tyre that people might be able to use to extend the comparo out into the space of more expensive European tyres, being the Cup 2. No-one would ever agree that the Cup 2 is a poor tyre - many would suggest that it is close to the very top of the category. And, for them all to come out so close to each other, and for the cheaper tyre in the test to do so well against the others, in some cases being even faster, shows that (good, non-linglong) tyres are reaching a plateau in terms of how good they can get, and they're all sitting on that same plateau. Anyway, on the AD08R, AD09, RS4 that I've had on the car in recent years, I've never had a problem in the cold and wet. SA gets down to 0-10°C in winter. Not so often, but it was only 4°C when I got in the car this morning. Once the tyres are warm (ie, after about 2km), you can start to lay into them. I've never aquaplaned or suffered serious off-corner understeer or anything like that in the wet, that I would not have expected to happen with a more normal tyre. I had some RE003s, and they were shit in the dry, shit in the wet, shit everywhere. I would rate the RS4 and AD0x as being more trustworthy in the wet, once the rubber is warm. Bridgestone should be ashamed of the RE003.
    • This is why I gave the disclaimer about how I drive in the wet which I feel is pretty important. I have heard people think RS4's are horrible in the rain, but I have this feeling they must be driving (or attempting to drive) anywhere close to the grip limit. I legitimately drive at the speed limit/below speed the limit 100% of the time in the rain. More than happy to just commute along at 50kmh behind a train of cars in 5th gear etc. I do agree with you with regards to the temp and the 'quality' of the tyre Dose. Most UHP tyres aren't even up to temperature on the road anyway, even when going mad initial D canyon carving. It would be interesting to see a not-up-to-temp UHP tyre compared against a mere... normal...HP tyre at these temperatures. I don't think you're (or me in this case) is actually picking up grip with an RS4/AD09 on the road relative to something like a RE003 because the RS4/AD09 is not up to temp and the RE003 is closer to it's optimal operating window.
    • Either the bearing has been installed backwards OR the gearbox input shaft bearing is loosey goosey.   When in doubt, just put in a Samsonas in.
