All womens get a creepy smile and sometimes an overly energetic wave

V35 get a nod if its not stock

Old muscle cars get a nod

Old school Jap get a nod

GT-Rs get a knowing look and a raised finger off the steering wheel

Evos get owned

WRX get nothing

It doesn't just depend on the car i think it depends on who is behind the wheel, if your hat is back to front or your look like a jerk i am not waving.

Agree, but... Do my Police sunnies make me look like a jerk? :(

I usually only bother to wave to the older, more classic models to show my appreciation (Datsuns!!!)... and they always wave back with a

This is true actually, most of the classic cars will give me some love back.

For me are as follows:

(P.S: I will only wave if I am in my V35 coupe.) :P

Waving:

1. GT-R's. (Ones that drive responsibly, particularly mature looking drivers.)

2. R32's, R33's, R34's. (Again, mature looking drivers. Definitely no P-platers.)

3. V and Z-series. (Ones that look back at me when we drive past each other. More willing to wave to Aussie (White) drivers, as I have some bad experiences with Asian drivers.)

4. Stagea's. (Most of them look at my car when coming across.)

Not Waving:

1. S13's (Had too many bad experiences.)

2. WRX's, Galant's, Legnum's (Except some of my friends, most of them look like they only care for their own kind of imports. i.e. To STI's and Evo's.)

Neutral (Maybe, Maybe not):

1. RX7 (Still like the car overall.)

2. Supra (Like RX7, still like the car overall. Definitely no P-platers.)

3. Mark II's, Chaser's, Soarer's (Most of them look at my car when coming across.)

4. STI's, Evo's (Except some of my friends, most of them don't look like they care much about other imports.)

Wave:

Any skyline, except a series 1 R33.

Supra, especially JZA/MA70s!

Evos

Foresters

Libertys

Cefiros/Laurels etcc...

RX7/8s

Aristos

GTRs

Silvas, except s13s

V35s

370zs

Z31/Z32

All stageas

Any Soarer driver who isn't Sudanese/Ugandan

BMW drivers who aren't wogs

No wave:

ANY commodore. No exceptions, they are all bogan wankers

WRXs. They're everywhere.

Hondas

350z

s13s

Any love for x-trails?

hahahah

I get no love. :( Where I live all there is are fags that drool over their V6 ecotec's broaw.

P-plates probably don't help but surely people can tell the difference between a sensible enthusiast and an idiot that has neons and chromies and tries to hit full speed between every set of lights/speed bumps.

No love to maroon S1 R33's and that's about it. (besides some of the above mentioned)

I know/think I saw Stealths X-trail (it was definitely an X-trail) the other day or last night on Warwick or Hepburn or Beach Rd. (I forget :) )

Not much of an initiator, however will return the favor, if I recognize plates or car I'll give a wave, nothing to over enthusiastic,

Same with spotted threads, only spot forum members or personal plates, not listing every car I see every day,

I like to wave at most R32/R34 drivers. Usually skip the R33's as they never give any love back.

No one waves S13s? Aw, the first wave I got here in Perth was from an S13 ^_^

Did it have a lot of green lol? I think 5WEET is the only Silvia that has ever waved to me.

hahaha ^^^

if im ever driving around and i see A VW wave to me - i'll be sure to put 2+2 together from now on :P

Jimmy if i ever saw your 32 i would definitely be giving you wave love. your car is gee'd up from the feet up.

OT - yerp

but i need to buy some materials first which come from the US of A

and beleive it or not i DO notice R32 golfs driving around... my girlfriends' sisters' boyfriend has got one...

he got it for cheap from sydney. i said it was cheap for a reason, but he bought it anyway.

funny story about that is:

he was driving home from "da club" one night with his gf and his ENGINE FELL OUT OF HIS CAR.

no seriously. engine fell out onto the road through the floorpan. danger to manifold styles.

VW said car is no longer covered by warranty but decided to fix it anyway out of... embarrassment i suppose.

they had the car for about 3.5 months? i would not begin to fathom the parts that would have been damaged in an intricate car like an R32 golf having it's engine fall out from it's chassis like that...

:/

hey question.. when it's night.. and you press the button on your fob remote... and the HIDs fire up before you even get in the car, does it make you smile everytime?

until I fix my window I don't wind it down so I try to wave but due to the dark tinting I think others believe I am just rude in not returning the favour :)

otherwise I would nod at other GTR owners and most imports, as long as they're not driving like tools and the car is well kept. If it's some crapbox it's probably treated as such by those who are not enthusiasts.

K let me know when you are ready.

It is still new to me (had it just over a month and have been away o/s for a good part of that) so yes and the fact i can roll down the windows when walking towards it.

o and the v6 note is nuts, just ask Kermit. Took it over to show him and he thought i had already put an exhaust on it. Think he wet himself when i rev'd it, got a funny look on his face.

right so back o/t

    • The average previous owner for these cars were basically S-chassis owners in the US. Teenagers or teenager-adjacent. I often tell people that neglect is easier to fix than something that was actively "repaired" by previous owners.
    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
