Hi, a lot of people have told me that it is better to import an r32 gtr V spec 2 rather than to buy one locally. I'm still not 100 % sure on the importing process and would really appreciate all the help i can be given. I am looking to spend around $15 to 25 K. So I am looking for a good deal. So if any one has imported an r32 GTR before and has been satisfied with it, then plz give me info on how you did it. Thanks

Plenty of good vehicles available locally which fit you bill, for a V-specII you will need to be looking upper end of your price range, getting one out of Japan nowadays is pretty pot luck, of the 1303 built 1500 seem to be in Aus already, and the ones left in Japan **apparently** attract good money when they come up for sale.. Check the for sale section there was a great example listed there recently

Just checked the for sale section, Fishpaste has the car for sale but is $29500, and deserves to be $32+

There's always a debate when it comes to importing vs local but I believe your chances of finding the one to your exact standards is for importing but you will pay a higher price for it. As mentioned, there are plenty of r32 gtr's going for sale if you look in the for sale section. R32 gtr's VII will always fetch a price higher than 25k.

I imported my GTR and still believe it was the the best way to go; with the $AU strong at present now is probably a good time. the import process is not difficult; it is buying a car before actually seeing it that is a bit tricky. unless you can go to Japan to source the car yourself you will have to find someone [an agent] to buy a car that will not disappoint you on arrival in Aus. I went to Japan to source my car, or course this adds to the cost, but gives piece of mind. all depends how much on how much you want that 'special' car.

your choice {the R32] is the iconic GTR; look for a good, unmolested example. they are a great car.

Ive imported 2 GT-Rs and constantly keep and eye on the market as an enthusiast to see whats available and if theres any "bargains". All I can say is although the exchange rate is good, the prices have gone up to match and grade 4 and better cars are very few and far between and generally the only ones that dont reappear for sale the next week. Unless you could go and inspect one in real life I personally would touch and R or A cars or less than grade 4. That being said, some of the smaller auctions still grade an accident car so buyer beware. You get what you pay for, a proper sub 100k Vspec 2 with a reasonable history and not too modified still goes for decent money in Japan. Arguably more that what it would cost to buy locally..

you need to decide if you want a cheap GTR or a good GTR. cheap GTR then just buy one locally. you will get something for low-mid 20s. if you want a good GTR you need to be willing to spend 25-30K and if you want a vspecII (and not a rubbish one) then be prepared to spend $30+. but think of it like this, a cheap clapped out GTR for $20K. now buy some wheels and an exhaust and fix a few problems. that's an easy $5K. might as well have just bought a good one to start with.

sadly due to their ages there are many, many more bad GTRs than good ones. the few good ones out there command much more money. both in aus and in japan. me personally I wouldn't even go looking for a 32 GTR with less than $30K to spend cause even if you buy the cheap one for $20K you'll need that $10K to make it halfway decent.

Agreed with Beer Baron. I'd still have my gtr now if I bought a good one in the first place. Such a shame really. Now I'm driving a Toyota.

I got my GTR for $12k? Does that mean I needa spend 18k to make it half decent? :D

Nowadays though haven't had as much attention. black 32 gtr with the gtr badge taken off and totally messy and looks shit <_<

So the car had a genuine 25k on the clock 15 years after it was released..... :whistling:

Dunno but remembering back to 2004-2005 all the 32GTRs I saw on carsales and being imported had about that much. So even if they aren't genuine, they certainly aren't any more or less dodgy than the rest. Who knows. Certainly doesn't look like it has 30-40kkm knocked off it. Someone did comment about the rear looking like it had been hit and rebuilt, maybe that is how/why the importer got it cheap (and face it, there *are* GTRs with 25kkm on the clock, just that they go for a mint).

The OP for example, surely many of the Vspec2s have 60-70kkm on them?

A V-Spec 2 R32 GT-R in grade 4 condition with GENUINE 60-80,000km wouldn't sell in Japan for under what would be $30K landed and complied here.

I know of one 6000km R32 hiding in WA that owes the owner something like $60K...

Thelen, if you have proof that the kms are legit other than what the previous owner told you, I'm prepared to eat my words, but until then, your genuine 85,000km ain't so genuine...

Oh they might not be. But the timing belt hasn't been changed, and its still in really good condition so can't be much past 30kkm wound back. Who cares anyway, only paid 11.500 for it :D

Sounds like OPs 25k might just get a sub 100kkm then.

I'm sorry mate but you're dreaming if you reckon the average km of R32 GTRs being imported in 2005 was 25,000... the average in 2002 was about 100,000km for genuine cars and car yards would wind them all back to something in the 60,000 range. by 2005 it was about 120,000 (with car dealers having generously moved their wind backs up to the high 60s now). The ones with less were either wound back by an optimist, or had the documents to prove it. if your car went 16 years with 25,000kms that means it travelled 1,500 per year. so basically driven once every 3 months... for that to be true it would have to have been a 1 owner car for the whole 16 years (there is no way 2 owners or more would have all basically not driven the car). a 1 owner car that only drove his car 1500kms a year would have records to back it up as even in 2005 the value of a car with 25,000kms genuine kms would be much better than the rest with 120,000+.

every bloke with his cheap GTR thinks it has genuine kms because of some random indicator he picks. how would you know the timing belt hasn't been changed? it could have been changed twice. even if the kms were gen at over 20years old and 80,000kms I would hope it's been changed at least once. 20yo timing belt would be f**ked by now regardless of kms. other people reckon they are genuine because of seat wear, or gearboot or steering wheel. what do you think are the first things a smart dealer replaces? know how much a genuine gearboot is from nissan japan? not bloody much.

anyway, really it's beside the point. if you're happy with it. that's good. and regardless of it's condition, any GTR for $12K is very cheap. and it's possible to buy nice cars for less than they are worth with people who are desperate for money. but the thing is, usually people with the nice cars don't get in situations where they are desperate for cash and they are willing to wait for the right price. usually the guys who are desperate for a sale have long had ups and downs and chances are their car was not always looked after as it should have been... spending on the car is one of the first things people cut back on when things are tight. they suddenly feel like chrono 300V at over $100 per oil change is too expensive and instead by castrol magnatec for $25... that's not the car you want to be buying.....

    • Wheel alignment immediately. Not "when I get around to it". And further to what Duncan said - you cannot just put camber arms on and shorten them. You will introduce bump steer far in excess of what the car had with stock arms. You need adjustable tension arms and they need to be shortened also. The simplest approach is to shorten them the same % as the stock ones. This will not be correct or optimal, but it will be better than any other guess. The correct way to set the lengths of both arms is to use a properly built/set up bump steer gauge and trial and error the adjustments until you hit the camber you need and want and have minimum bump steer in the range of motion that the wheel is expected to travel. And what Duncan said about toe is also very true. And you cannot change the camber arm without also affecting toe. So when you have adjustable arms on the back of a Skyline, the car either needs to go to a talented wheel aligner (not your local tyre shop dropout), or you need to be able to do this stuff yourself at home. Guess which approach I have taken? I have built my own gear for camber, toe and bump steer measurement and I do all this on the flattest bit of concrete I have, with some shims under the tyres on one side to level the car.
    • Thought I would get some advice from others on this situation.    Relevant info: R33 GTS25t Link G4x ECU Walbro 255LPH w/ OEM FP Relay (No relay mod) Scenario: I accidentally messed up my old AVS S5 (rev.1) at the start of the year and the cars been immobilised. Also the siren BBU has completely failed; so I decided to upgrade it.  I got a newer AVS S5 (rev.2?) installed on Friday. The guy removed the old one and its immobilisers. Tried to start it; the car cranks but doesnt start.  The new one was installed and all the alarm functions seem to be working as they should; still wouldn't start Went to bed; got up on Friday morning and decided to have a look into the no start problem. Found the car completely dead.  Charged the battery; plugged it back in and found the brake lights were stuck on.  Unplugging the brake pedal switch the lights turn off. Plug it back in and theyre stuck on again. I tested the switch (continuity test and resistance); all looks good (0-1kohm).  On talking to AVS; found its because of the rubber stopper on the brake pedal; sure enough the middle of it is missing so have ordered a new one. One of those wear items; which was confusing what was going on However when I try unplugging the STOP Light fuses (under the dash and under the hood) the brake light still stays on. Should those fuses not cut the brake light circuit?  I then checked the ECU; FP Speed Error.  Testing the pump again; I can hear the relay clicking every time I switch it to ON. I unplugged the pump and put the multimeter across the plug. No continuity; im seeing 0.6V (ECU signal?) and when it switches the relay I think its like 20mA or 200mA). Not seeing 12.4V / 7-9A. As far as I know; the Fuel Pump was wired through one of the immobiliser relays on the old alarm.  He pulled some thick gauged harness out with the old alarm wiring; which looks to me like it was to bridge connections into the immobilisers? Before it got immobilised it was running just fine.  Im at a loss to why the FP is getting no voltage; I thought maybe the FP was faulty (even though I havent even done 50km on the new pump) but no voltage at the harness plug.  Questions: Could it be he didnt reconnect the fuel pump when testing it after the old alarm removal (before installing the new alarm)?  Is this a case of bridging to the brake lights instead of the fuel pump circuit? It's a bit beyond me as I dont do a lot with electrical; so have tried my best to diagnose what I think seems to make sense.  Seeking advice if theres for sure an issue with the alarm install to get him back here; or if I do infact, need an auto electrician to diagnose it. 
    • Then, shorten them by 1cm, drop the car back down and have a visual look (or even better, use a spirit level across the wheel to see if you have less camber than before. You still want something like 1.5 for road use. Alternatively, if you have adjustable rear ride height (I assume you do if you have extreme camber wear), raise the suspension back to standard height until you can get it all aligned properly. Finally, keep in mind that wear on the inside of the tyre can be for incorrect toe, not just camber
    • I know I have to get a wheel alignment but until then I just need to bring the rear tyres in a bit they're wearing to the belt on the inside and brand new on the outside edge. I did shorten the arms a bit but got it wrong now after a few klms the Slip and VDC lights come on. I'd just like to get it to a point where I can drive for another week or two before getting an alignment. I've had to pay a lot of other stuff recently so doing it myself is my only option 
    • You just need a wheel alignment after, so just set them to the same as current and drive to the shop. As there are 2 upper links it may also be worth adding adjustable upper front links at the same time; these reduce bump steer when you move the camber (note that setting those correctly takes a lot longer as you have to recheck the camber at each length of the toe arm, through a range of movement, so you could just ignore that unless the handling becomes unpredictable)
