what oil pressure does the rb25det run at, at tickover and through the revs please if anyone knows?

I have f**ked my engine by having a blocked oil strainer, (don't ask, long story!) but at no time did the oil warning light come on. I am getting a replacement engine fitted and thought of fitting either a depo gauge with a settable alarm on it or a higher pressure oil switch like this

This is the cheapest option and at least the light would work then when there is still enough pressure to save big ends and main bearings etc. Or is the tickover lower than that?

I do not want to be caught out like that again. Some vehicles have the oil warning light fitted to a oil level switch which is totally useless in my opinion as you could have a full sump and no oil pressure!!

When I relocated the oil filter and installed the gauges I fitted an oil temperature and oil pressure gauge.

On start up it runs around 50/60 psi, when hot and running it drops to around 45 psi. At hot idle its about 20 psi.

Temperature is about 85 with normal driving. Given a real good push up the Mountain it can get to around 110.

Have always used Fully Syn Nulon 5W-40 with 80k addative

After fitting the F/F plenum I still get a gurgle from the back of the motor after a hard run, but if I let it run for a minute or so, stationary,

it does not gurgle. Have got an oil cooler to fit soon, but wanted to get some braided lines so it looks better.

Link sell an oil pressure sensor which when wired through the link will turn the engine off while oil pressure is below a given figure for the rev level. Sadly for you its not much use without the Link as the switch off point needs to be variable. If you set it to trigger an audible alarm below a certain figure that would probably be a pain at idle and on starting up.

I have got a depo oil pressure gauge and sender on the way, a bit starwars for my liking but it'll do what I want, will mount it in the centre top right air vent, already fitted r32gtr gauges below the aircon but they are boost, oil temp and volts.

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
