Hey Guy's

You either love 'em or hate them. But for the people out there that do like them. What car Magazines are the pick of the litter for Skyline enthusiast these days?

I recently picked up "Performance Imports" and didn't think it was too bad. I no the web has more up to date information but I don't mind the odd magazine ad and articles while sitting on the "can" lol.

Thanks in advance

Regards

Matt

imo PI mag is good for pretty pictures, the stories that go along with the cars are generally rubbish, and the tech stuff....Well Martin Donnon knows his stuff...but some of the other articles are a bit......well....to be blunt...wrong

Modified Mag from the US has some cool cars, although mainly Supras/WRX's/Evos

I don't mind PI, best bits are Kristians monthly column and seeing all the new toys available. Pretty much every car mag that does articles on a feature car follows the same boring structure. It's just 2000 word expanded shopping cart list, boring if you ask me and the writers should put in a bit more effort.

High Performance Imports (HPI) aka, Performance Imports will be my first choice.

Then it would have been SPEED Magazine.

It was out back in the early 2000's then stopped after a few years or so.

A copy of Auto Salon Magazine was given to me and surprisingly had some decent articles and car reviews.

Wheels / Motor / Hot 4's is all 'meh...'

I know you live in Qld, but for anyone who lives in Sydney, it's worthwhile going to Express Publications at Silverwater to ask for back issues of PI or even HPI for you to peruse in the front foyer > make your selection of articles (ie issue #s) that you want to save > buy any Mag for $5.

Hint: Take you time and treat the place like your own personal library!

i dont buy them anymore as its all free in here but i religously bought HPI and Zoom 7 or 8 yrs ago. zoom usually only ran 1 or 2 skyline/VL stories plus everything else. was some good tech stuff in there and DIY`s

I'm tempted to say Zoom, I love the magazine, but Adrian the editor lurks on the some forums and rarely has a nice thing to say to anyone, especially if you don't know EVERYTHING THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT CARS.

and he owes me a blow off valve, I had an article published and I supposedly won a $400 BOV, 5 chase-up e-mails and 12 months later, nothing.

So I cancelled my subscription.

Up to a few months ago, I'd have agreed with Zoom being a great choice too. The last 3-4 issues have really and very thoroughly disappointed me. I've forced myself to read them cover to cover because I've paid my subscription, but I find myself opening them up, flipping a coupla pages and being thoroughly disappointed.

I've been subscribed for years (along with HPI/PI), yet I'm seriously considering canceling my subscription of Zoom. If their editor is on these forums, I hope he reads this post and takes something positive from it.

    • Yep, the closest base tune available was for the GTT, I went with that and made all the logical changes I could find to convert it to Naturally Aspirated. It will rev fine in Neutral to redline but it will be cutting nearly 50% fuel the whole way.  If I let it tune the fuel map to start with that much less fuel it wont run right and has a hard time applying corrections.  These 50% cuts are with a fuel map already about half of what the GTT tune had.  I was having a whole lot of bogging when applying any throttle but seem to have fixed that for no load situations with very aggressive transient throttle settings. I made the corrections to my injectors with data I found for them online, FBCJC100 flowing 306cc.  I'll have to look to see if I can find the Cam section. I have the Bosch 4.9 from Haltech. My manifold pressure when watching it live is always in -5.9 psi/inHg
    • Hi My Tokico BM50 Brake master cylinder has a leak from the hole between the two outlets (M10x1) for brake pipes, I have attached a photo. Can anyone tell me what that hole is and what has failed to allow brake fluid to escape from it, I have looked on line and asked questions on UK forums but can not find the answer, if anyone can enlighten me I would be most grateful.
    • It will be a software setting. I don't believe many on here ever used AEM. And they're now a discontinued product, that's really hard to find any easy answers on. If it were Link or Haltech, someone would be able to just send you a ECU file though.
