I was suggesting it was so loud because it was essentially a straight through pipe; ie has no mufflers.. What are we disagreeing on again?

haha, seems Aaron has confused you by confusing himself :P

Ryan. can you get a dB reading on that exhaust? Idle and 3000rpm perhaps?

Do like the Ti tips

Andrew builds his mufflers slightly differently. Instead of the traditional route, he uses sound deadening material around the outside. It does work, but he just needed to use more of it. Lessens restriction and gives a better sound.

oh i thought you meant the fact that its a small hot dog, which is why i said i dont think the size matters with hotdogs.. lol

mmmmm hotdog...

Isn't that how most aftermarket mufflers work? You need a large muffler body, the bigger the chamber, the more low end noise it takes out. Hot dog or resonators are practically useless.

Doesn't explain the Blitz NUR exhaust

Not sure about other aftermarket mufflers, but I know most standard ones use baffles and other restrictions to lessen noise. Running a straight through pipe with sound deadening material around it should be the go if you use enough sound deadening.

I will get the noise down, once the bigger muffler is in we'll work out if we need to add another. Andrew prides himself on his work, and after having the car on the hoist today you can really see it.

Sounds like a few people are interested, so I'll get some group buy info.

I am still genuinely interested in the argument of bellmouth vs split dump? I have no idea, so I'm curious on the pros/cons of each?

  • 2 weeks later...

I finally remembered to ring Andrew today, and he'll send me group buy details tonight.

In answer to another question I had, the cat installed in mine is a 200cpi metal cat.

Should get my new muffler in the next 2 weeks (assuming I get time to go round and get it fitted), but I have no doubt it'll be all sorted before group buy orders start happening.

Watch this space

Ok guys, finally have the pricing for the AM Performance exhausts.

Dump/front pipe without cat - 480.00

Middle pipe with 200cpsi ceramic cat - 450.00

Middle pipe without cat - 250.00

Catback with muffler in the middle and single cannon style - 800

Catback same as above but twin mufflers 930.00

Titanium tips as per photos add 150.00

All is stainless steel (except titanium tips obviously).

Installation is $280 if you're in Adelaide, and prices are excluding shipping.

I have some group buy pricing if there is a number of people keen, we would need 4 people to go ahead.

If there is enough interest I'm willing to run a group buy, so let me know.

So complete system with Ti tips is just over $2k plus shipping?

I think maybe some db levels and a youtube clip for the sound might help.

Only reason I say that is because you can probably get a Kakimoto R or Blitz NUR and one of Scott's dump/front pipe combo's for that price, although AM's is probably a little easier for SA residents.

Still, very interested in the design and how AM are implementing the sound deadening. :D

Do love a well designed exhaust!

    • Definitely a hearty eater when we go out, I consider these meals my cheat day as I've been watching my calories in and calories out pretty hard since my little fun size stroke, I've gone from a fat boy of 89 Kg, I'm only 165cm tall/short, down to a almost semi lean 73 Kg over the last few years, I'm currently around 17% body fat which my doctor is very happy with, but, my goal is to slowly get down to and maintain 15%,so yeah, I want all of the protein, carbs, fats and sugars when I go out for a binge
    • There was a great one on Victoria Rd in Gladesville too back in the day. I can only assume GTSBoy is thinking of the mill up on the wollondilly, no restaurant there any more but they have restored the original steam engine on site and run it every few months, have an annual steampunk festival etc @The Bogan, you came to the wrong town for restaurants. we have a few reasonable asian and indian options but the Paragon is as good as it gets otherwise. That brewery is apparently just opened, been meaning to give it a go some time. The Highlands have plenty of fancy options but I suspect you are more a hearty eater than fancy eater

    • Going by the intake & injectors I'd be guessing it's a DE, check the head casting number, should be 5L8 on a DET, 5L7 I think is the DE number.
