Good on you for striving to do your own research/experimentation to satisfy yourself that you've done it right - there IS a lot of BS and misunderstanding on the internet and its self propegating, I wish I worked out way earlier that even a lot of the more clued up seeming (and sometimes actually are mostly switched on) people have holes in their understanding of things, no one can have all the answers. A lot of the time given explanations for a rule of thumb which is correct are wrong in terms of reasons, and thats where things can go awry.

Having said that, all things being equal (no compromising bends, equivalent mufflers etc) I am absolutely sure that going to a 3" or bigger exhaust will cost you nothing anywhere versus a 2.5" system on your car. Any loss in torque anyone has experienced with a turbo car as a result of changing exhaust would more likely be tune related, or some other issue - especially if the airflow (in an airflow metered car) reaches levels which there is overly safe mapping for in that particular instance.

Bare in mind when changing a cars setup that there are always all sorts of variables at play, don't always assume that the most obvious thing (or the first thing you think of) is actually the cause of the final outcome.

Not %100 if that was sarcasm or not? But if not, cheers. thumbsup.gif

And yes, I'm happy to do my own research, at the risk of someone elses' pride and a few dollars out of my pocket, more than likely, i'll end up with a 3" exhaust at some point, and more than likely, make more power, for now I am keen to see what the 2.5" system can handle, and what happens on a fair/comparative dyno run when it's dropped. If it makes 11ty more killer-wasps, then 3" piping it is, an my exhaust guy gets proven wrong...

Make sure you update us with the 2.5" dyno sheet be neat to compare with the 3"inch one .. assuming you're vehicle is fairly stock

Wasn't sarcasm at all - see here: http://www.typology.net/quotes/maria.html

Forums are full of people who think they know more than they do and sitting on people who may actually be heading in a good direction, even if in a round-about way.

2:5 inch will be fine to 200kw.. Probably a bit more

But i still adivse you get the 3 inch bellmouth dump as this will make alot more of a difference than the whole exhaust..

Btw mine will be for sale shortly (hint hint ;) ) 100$ delivered..

So is my turbo that made 222rwkw at 14psi...if ya interested...lol

250hp at the engine is only roughly 150rwkw. That is what a standard RB25DET makes.

A normal setup with a few mods is around 190rwkw so as said by Arthur thats around 300hp at the engine.

190rwkw is a LOT more than 300hp

300hp = 223kw

There is no way you are only losing 30kw to the drivetrain :)

Id say closer to 340-350hp @ 200rwkw would be much closer to the mark. So yes, 2.5" is going to be too small and I would not be surprised if there is gains noticed if someone went from 2.5" --> 3" with 200rwkw.

Might only be 5-10rwkw in the top end, but the midrange might see gains as would on/off throttle etc.

**Although** that includes having a nice dump pipe as well. If the dump/front area is only 2.5" then dropping the exhaust from the CAT - might not show up the actual difference. It's still being choked from the outset etc.

Either way 3" should have been chosen.

Now, full 2.5" vs 3" is a lot more understandable.

What about:

Full 3", including 3" exhaust tip,

Versus

Full 3", with 6" exhaust tip.

We know 6" exhaust tip will be louder. But what about power along all the RPM?

The tip have sweet FA to do with it.

A tip any larger than the exhaust itself = noise. There is no performance benefit.

Lol, nice plug,,, thumbsup.gif

DE+T, stock ECU and intercooler, for now, 14psi is a bit down the track...

Car has become some sort of animal, boost comes in alot harder, 300rpm sooner, and holds all the way through, the VCT is very noticeable. 5psi by 2200rpm is very, "streetable"...

Just have to get the car on a dyno, and see what difference dropping the exhaust at the cat makes, if none, then i'll try a 3" dump/front, and then drop the exhaust again and see how things go...

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
