it's a good deal Charles, i don't think i ever got that cheap with my GTT and that was with a squeaky clean record, in a non-risk area, limited km use AND locked garage, behind electric gate etc etc. So $1600, with Shannons pay by the month.... no brainer.

That doesn't work too well on cars worth $5k or less^

One thing you have to consider with full comp, is that the excess is generally higher than a third party excess - so if you make a claim for fire and theft, or you come off with very little damage in an accident, you can be worse off than if you had third party.

this is my situation. i have thrid party fire and theft only because my car isnt worth enough for full comp. i paid 4000 for the car, plus 1000 getting it roadworthy so 5 grand total. justcars quoted me 2700 for full comp, which just isnt worth it in my opinion. i would end up paying the value of the car within 2 years so full comp is just not justifiable in my honest opinion

Yeah, I'm definitely going full comp, gonna pay by the month.

Knowing that if anything happens to my car, I'll get $20,000 back is the key factor.

Because I've already had an accident in this car before, almost 2 years ago, and I had to pay an excess of $1950 just to get the other person's car fixed, so I think it's worth it.

Have you ever had a not-at-fault accident ? With 3rd party you and the other insurance company sort it out, and it can take time, they can try to force you to go to their choice of repairer et cetera.

I've been told legally you don't have to use their choice of repairer.

Furthermore they will make you wait until they're client's car is repaired before authorising your repairs.

Comprehensive, they take care of it for you, you get your car fixed.

Also as mentioned 3rd party fire/theft is often capped at 5K, read the fine print.

And you already know what happens with an at-fault accident :)

Further on from this I had a not at fault accident at the start of the year where both cars were write-offs. Because we both disputed the other party was at fault we had to draw up diagrams and our version of events. I sent it in the night I received the papers and it took the other party more than 2 months to send it in so meanwhile I was without a car and pay-out for quite some time. Food for thought.

Good to hear Charles, that's a very reasonable price from Shannons considering your age, the car and the agreed value. Definitely go for that. The peace of mind of knowing you are covered no matter what happens is great. You couldn't replace the car easily if something where to happen to it so you have one less worry on your mind. My three cars of value (all over $15k) have all had full comp insurance and I'd have it on any car worth more than $5k.

Hey guys,

I know I'll probably cop a few words from you lot, but I need some convincing about switching to full comp insurance lol.

I'm currently on 3rd party, fire & theft with Just Car paying $500 a year with a $2000 excess. But been thinking about switching to Shannons' full comp due to heaps of Skylines being stole lately lol.

Shannons quoted me $1670 a year with a $900 excess for full comp, which works out to $140 a month with a $20,000 agreed value..

Which one should I choose?.. >_<

With Shannons, you have to be over 25 to get insurance with them. However, a little irrelevant since my car isn't a GT-T but I'm paying $1700 p/a on an agreed value of $13000 for my 2D R34 GT with NRMA and I'm 19, still on my P2 License with an $800 excess. If I forked out quite a buck for a GT-T (which I bet you did + all the stuff you've probably done to it :P), I would definitely go for full comprehensive insurance, unless the car was just sitting in the garage all the time and hardly ever got driven.

I don't want to come off as patronizing either, but full comprehensive is a must for any import since Skylines are a perfect target for theft, unless it's a POS you paid <$5000 for.

Cheers.

No you don't :P I'm 21 and I got a quote from em ;)

@ Juliette - I'm 100% on going Shannons, just a matter of time before I call up Just Car and tell them they are shit and that I want a refund of 4 weeks of my premium LOL.

On a side note... To anyone else that's thinking to go with Shannons. Initially, the quote they gave me was $1669 for an agreed value of $18,000. Then I thought about it and wanted to raise the agreed value a little more, so I called up and asked to put it up a bit more and I told them I don't mind paying more in premium.

So the guy asked me how much money and stuff I've put into it, I told him, then he went to ask his colleage that's into Skylines, and he said, "look, we can make it $20,000 for you, but can't go above that", then I asked, so how much more would I have to pay? And he got back to me with "oh, I just put down $20,000 and your premium is still $1669". And I was just like :glare:

So pretty much, if I didn't ask for higher agreed value, they woulda given me $18,000 for the same premium that I'm paying.... :glare:

they use to be fairly strict on that. back when i first got my GT-T and insured it with Shannons i was 21 (maybe even 20, not sure) and they said the only reason they were willing to insure me was because i was a member of a CAMS affiliated car club and that normally they don't go that young. But it definitely seems to have relaxed over the years, perhaps they just don't like to advertise this though...

I'm paying about $750 p.a for Full Comprehensive with Just cars. I'm 26 with an agreed MV of about 18K. Can't remember what my excess is.

When I first got my car at 22 the insurance was about $1,200.

    • For once a good news  It needed to be adjusted by that one nut and it is ok  At least something was easy But thank you very much for help. But a small issue is now(gearbox) that when the car is stationary you can hear "clinking" from gearbox so some of the bearing is 100% not that happy... It goes away once you push clutch so it is 100% gearbox. Just if you know...what that bearing could be? It sounding like "spun bearing" but it is louder.
    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve.
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
