hey,

so as the topic states i have rounded the filler plug on my gearbox whilst trying to get the lil bastard out.

just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what i do now?

i read on an old DIY that you can refill the oil through a hole or something near the gear shifter inside the car?

iv had a look and cant see any obvious way of doing this, if anyone has done this successfully where am i ment to be pouring the oil?

thanks for any help...

hey i just changed my gearbox oil yesterday. tried to take out the gearstick but couldn't. then had to refill at the bottom. does anyone have a step by step tutorial on how to remove gearstick? i heard you need a right angled long plier to remove the stick?

ahh, so you take the shifter right out do you?,

mingy

theres a step by step how to in the DIY forums under installing a short shifter or something like that

ill give it a crack, hopefully my drain plug doesn't round aswell..

on that note my 1/2" drive breaker bar doesn't seem to fit snug in these plugs, any ideas on how to prevent it from rounding them?

Remove the two circlips and it will come off. 1/2 inch works for me, they shouldnt be that tight that it rounds it, just be careful when doing it and if you feel it slip stop.

alright got the shifter out no worries, then got back under to remove the dump plug and..... no bingo! rant.gif

i'm using a 40cm breaker bar WITH half of my garage jack handel on the end giving me a total of around 1.2m worth of breaking power, iv sprayed the crap out of it with Lanox inox

and still just feels like its bending the plug about to round it!!!

any ideas what to do?

the only issue with taking it to a mehchanic is once they get it out they will have to refill it so i cant get it home.

dont wanna know what they will charge me for a few hours labour and use of their shop.. :S

waiting on a new plug now so i can try the chisel... if that still doesnt work for some reason then ill have to take it to a mechanic haha

I had the same problem with my motorbike's sump plug, I tried everything but managed to get it using vice grips + hammer.. had part was getting those vice grips on super tight.

In trying everything, if the vice grips didn't work I was willing to sacrifice a ring spanner by welding it to the sump plug

Did mine yesterday and was tight but with a standard braker it got undone, was not worried about rounding it at all, there was alot of some form of sealant on the plug for sure, as it's only a shallow 1/2 inch plug just make sure the bar is in good and proper and let the guns do the rest of the work

    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
