another +1 for a car from the for sale section here.

The biggie for me is usually a quick search on the seller's user name will bring up a bit about the history of the car if he/she has been a member for a while. You can generally find out if they've had any problems, what activites they do in the car, what repairs may have been done, what workshops they go to etc etc.

eg if someone is selling their car and you search their name and it comes up with "just blew my 5th clutch in 2 months cause i can't get my 9000rpm launch's right" its probably a car that has had a hard life :)

This place is a goldmine when trying to ascertain the history of a car.

Oh, and welcome, SAU (esp NSW)is like the Hotel California, check out anytime you like, but you will never leave!! :)

search for edward lee's on here before trying them....

head back to japlink and ask for Todd....they are normally very helpful so it's probably worth another try. They are big supporters of the skyline scene too.

but as said before, don't rule out private sellers, especially for cars that are known by club members.

Bahahaha that's hilarious, and so true! Also a lot of the members on here are genuinely trying to better their car, doing mods properly and fixing little bits and pieces that go wrong with age.

I bought my first skyline a year ago max from a private seller.

Saved up the money and bought it outright from a 40 year old mature enthusiast locally to me.

Everything the guys have said is so useful unfortunately I only found out about SAU after buying my car.

My best advice is read threads on performance, common issues etc i have learnt so much advice in the last 6 months from surfin this site which would have made my choice easier.

Be prepared for unexpected costs i got mine from old bloke and clutch went 3 weeks later, coilpacks shorted and turbo blew 3 months after. All said car is now running great with 250rwkw and love my ride.

I see your previous ride is an excel, before the skyline i owned an 1988 bmw. I would advise a defensive driving or advanced driving course they can really be quite dangerous without knowing how turbo's work.

e.g hit boost while turning there is a bit of an art do driving turbo's

I personally wouldnt get anything to crazy. Get a solid base with minimal mods. You dont need 300rwkw without experience of driving skylines you will get into strife!

Welcome to Skyline territory you wont regret it.

best advice in this thread. while our texi days aren't strictly advanced driving, they give you a feel of how things can go sideways very quickly.

doing an actual training course is a godsend.

Hey guys! sorry that its been so long!! I bought my 33 in september last year and I will be posting up pictures soon in the appropriate thread. I am so happy with it but it goes through so much fuel!! More than I expected, even from a turbo car. It's pretty stock and it surprises me. I love driving it though and all my mates love it :)

I have done a couple of defensive driving courses but I am planning to do one soon in the 33. I havent found it too hard to get used to the turbo, althoug it has only causght me out once but I managed to get her back in line.

Good stuff mate, good to hear. Whereabouts do you live? Next time we have a Texi in Quaker's Hill, show up and say hi :)

What's your fuel usage like, on highway or city, etc? Any mods? Stock ECU and 10psi for me, I get around 11-12L per 100. Mostly cruising, a bit of giving it a boot when getting up to speed when I enter a highway etc.

I live literally 5 min from Quakers! I'm in Stanhope gardens. So yeah, I will definitely show up and say hi next time! Hopefully I will be aware of it :)

Not sure what litres per 100 is but I get maybe 320km to a tank, which probably isn't great.

Only mods the car has is a turbo back genuine nismo exhaust and a blitz pod which came with the car and still needs a cover.

It has nice 18" k speed 5spoke rims, gold and chrome. Got a few stickers on it, the best one is my big relax. sticker across the rear window.

I just had my sound system finished too which is awesome

Ah, yeah I get about that when driving a bit spiritedly :) The stock ECU dumps heaps of fuel in to keep things nice and cool.

Aftermarket ECUs can help that heaps, but I've been told an SAFC can do wonders too for fuel econ (and a little more midrange powarrr).

Texis are usually on at the Nirimba TAFE there, at the old airfield; not sure when the next one is there because there's one on this weekend down in Canberra... Keep your eyes on the Events section :)

If you live in Stanhope Gardens, you've got NO excuse not to come out to the next Texikhana day! It's totally worth participating in, and there is no pressure to push yourself or your car beyond what you're comfortable with. Just keep an eye on the Events section.

Do yourself a favour! :D

With the fuel thing, I'm investing in a set of splitfire coils and probably a new air flow metre. Will that help at all?

maybe not; coilpacks will help if you're getting misses while smashing 2nd gear or going up in power (mods etc), but even just cleaning your AFM might help. Happy to have a look at it at the July texi (and I'm sure a bunch of guys who know more than me will be there too :))

yeah when the event thread pops up and if you can come to texi or any other event for that matter, ask around in there for someone to bring there consult cable and laptop, (or you can buy it for 100 bucks)

its a cable and program that plugs into your car and tells you lots of stuff, for example your fuel to air ratio, it checks all your sensors and monitors about 15 things.

id be looking at your afm and try cleaning that with some afm cleaner or alike, and also your oxygen sensor thats on your dump pipe (just after your turbo on the start or your exhaust) they seem to be common 'faults' of our cars to make fuel econ shitty.

    • Hi guys . Can someone help me  I bought an Android screen for my Nissan fuga but it won't turn on   
    • My guesstimate, with no real numbers to back it up, is it won't effect it greatly at all.its not a huge change in position, and I can't see the air flow changing from in turbulence that much based on distance, and what's in front of it. Johnny and Brad may have some more numbers to share from experience though.
    • Which solenoid? Why was it changed? Again, why was this done? ...well, these wear..but ultimately, why was it changed? Did you reset the idle voltage level after fitment? I'm just a tad confused ~ the flash code doesn't allude to these items being faulty, so in my mind the only reason to change these things, would be some drive-ability issue....and if that's the case, what was the problem? Those questions aside, check if the dropping resistor is OK ...should be 11~14 ohms (TCU doesn't throw a flash code for this) ~ also, these TCU designs have full time power (to keep fault code RAM alive), and I think that'll throw a logic code (as opposed to the 10 hardware codes), if that power is missing (or the ram has gone bad in the TCU, which you can check..but that's another story here perhaps).
    • Question for people who "know stuff" I am looking at doing the new intake like the one in the picture (the pictured is designed for the OEM TB and intake plenum), this design has the filter behind the front bar, but, the filter sits where the OEM duct heads into the front bar, and the standard aperture when the OEM ducting is removed allows the filter to pulled back out of the front bar into the engine bay for servicing, a simple blanking plate is used to seal the aperture behind the filter This will require a 45° silicone hose from the TB, like the alloy pipe that is currently there, to another 45° silicone hose to get a straight run to the aperture in the front bar Question: how will it effect the tune if I move the MAF about 100-150mm forward, the red is around where my MAF is currently, and the green would be where it would end up Like this This is the hole the filter goes through  Ends up like this LOL..Cheers    
    • Despite the level up question, actually I do know what that is....it is a pressure sender wire.  So check out around the oil filter for an oil pressure sender, or maybe fuel pressure near the filter or on the engine. Possibly but less likely coolant pressure sensor because they tend to be combined temp/pressure senders if you have one. Could also be brake pressure (in a brake line somewhere pre ABS) but maybe I'm the only one that has that on a skyline.
