Hi guys the misses recently purchased her second gtr so we are now in the process of doing a few things to it but i have a few questions that i would like answered if possible, the car is semi stock except for a n1 bottom end, 34 n1`s, injectors, exhaust, cooler and a power fc + a few other bits and pieces, any way am now starting to tidy up all the wiring and stuff under the bonnet, plus fitting a new catch can and have just finished putting the battery in the boot. Tis is the car and engine bay.post-41092-0-06990900-1313643446_thumb.jpg

So the boost solenoid has now been removed and will replace all the old hose with new silicone hose via the boost controller from a direct source off the bottom of the plenum to the actuators, so this will clear some of the wiringup from the engine bay but what do ppl do in regards to the fuse box and wiring coz of late i have seen quite a few pictures of ppl that have them removed and only have the ballast resistor left in its place, is it as easy and tucking it up under the guard in a secured box of do ppl encounter any other issues?

Secondly what is this and what does it do? post-41092-0-77610200-1313643769_thumb.jpg post-41092-0-56793100-1313644073_thumb.jpg i see cars that have aftermarket plenums fitted have it completely removed, if this is the case what else needs doing while at it?

Now will also be removing the entire hicas system out of the car, and hopefully replace the power steering pump with a new non hicas item, do the rb30 pumps fit or will i need a non hicas r33 gtst pump? Bracket? Also everything off the cradle will be a piece of cake, but is this piece also hicas related? post-41092-0-88333400-1313644028_thumb.jpg post-41092-0-44480900-1313644131_thumb.jpg can it all be removed and unplugged?

So this is what the engine looked like on the weekend post-41092-0-97415800-1313643368_thumb.jpg post-41092-0-97415800-1313643368_thumb.jpg and this is what it looks like now. post-41092-0-06351900-1313644302_thumb.jpg post-41092-0-10342700-1313644311_thumb.jpg and i must say the plenum was a outright pain in the bum to remove post-41092-0-26652100-1313644356_thumb.jpg

So i have come from a back ground or cars and imports (6year silvia build) so i know whats what its just a few things about the 26 im new to so any or all imput is appreciated.

cheers

stephen

OK, so the thing with the plenum is a vacuum distribution manifold. It grabs vacuum from the inlet runners and distributes it to places that need it (like the brake booster). You need it or something like it. Cars with aftermarket plenums usually have a single throttle conversion, so you can just source vacuum from the plenum in that case.

The plumbing between the chassis rail and the oil pump area of the engine is the HICAS solenoid assembly, and yes, it and all the pipes that run to the back of the car (and to the power steering pump) can come out. You will need a single stage power steering pump. Don't know if RB30 ones fit a 26, but the 25 ones should. You could also mod the existing 2 stager to remove the bits out of the rear stage if you wanted to.

yeah have spoken to ppl about removing the fins but from what ive red they tend to burn out after a while so why i have the car apart i may as well put a new one in and be done with it. As for the distribution chamber can i remove it and tap fitting into the plenum to get my vac sources?

What plenum? If you're still using the multi-throttles, then the answer is no. That's why Nissan have the vacuum jigger on there in the first place. Think about it - there is never really any vacuum in the original plenum.

nar am going to completely removed the whole system,. lockbar is 100 bucks and i have a rb30 power steering pump so nothing expensive just time consuming,m so while the car is in the shed in bits its no biggy to remove everything and gain a extra 15kg reduction, but thanks anyways.

i used r33 gtr pump... with rb25 pumps i cant remember but i seem to think the belts are different aswell... like a different number on ribs or something?

just find r33 or r34 gtr pump. or get the hicas removed off your r32 pump....

Cut away part of the ally body at the front where the bolt goes through, and replace that thickness at the back. Space the adjuster bracket to suit.

cheers mate thats just what i needed to know will get onto that tonight.

Y dont you use the orginal pump with the rear fins removed

I see no reason why it would burn out because there will be fluid circulating in the front section as normal

As its the misses car i didnt want to take the chance of the pump burning out the leaving her without steering so i opted 4 this option.

do the 33gtr pumps come in non hicas? Was it a direct bolt on mod? Did it also take the stock 32gtr belt? Coz as stated above the 25det pump requires a different belt.

All gtr pumps are super hicas pumps. You can remove the back of the pump and take the fins out, then bolt back together and put 2x brass plugs in. Despite what people say this will not damage the pump or do anything to the life of it.

Second option is a 25/20 non super hicas pump. The belt dia should be same, I am currently running a rb20 pump on my 26/30 with a 26 balancer no issues. You grind the lugs down on the bracket itself so it's flush, then space the rear. Alternatively you also swap the pullies over if the rib count is definately different.

Yuh, but it was possible to read that and know that they were only talking about R33 upward by the previous context. In fact, their conversation was less confusing than what you wrote, because you said they were wrong, whilst then just making the same point that they had made - without going on to say that the R32 GTR pump is the same (functionally) as the other R32 HICAS pumps.

Nevertheless, we shall all survive.
