ae101 / ae111 levin.. quad throttle bodies + 8800rpm = symphony

my old ae101 - miss it badly. handled like it was on rails, 500+km to a tank on hard driving, parts are fairly cheap, easy to work on.

Gratuitous plug, I am selling it, I am in WA, it does need rego but it sort of fits your criteria and its cheap.

There are a stack of cheap fun cars on gumtree.

I even saw a RB30'd KE70 unfinished project.....

you could pick up an old mitsubishi cordia with a 4g63 for under 5k if you can find one, or a galant with 4g63 ( the turbo ones) , cordia is old put if you picked one up for say 1500 you could boost it up or bolt a garrett and an intercooler on..

or pick up the old celica supra 84 model for 3k and maybe swap the engine for a v8 or turbo supra motor for a few thousand more, even a vl turbo engine slotted in would go hard

haha are you from thommo?

lol yeh around that area. i used to have a canary yellow bt1 mockup vn 6. locker. vl calais .. locker

this thread asks for "FUN car under 5k"

and people saying civic? wtf that isnt fun

il show you fun thommo factories haha

that looks really nice to me .. although if i was to buy something like a civic id prefer an older/cheaper one ..

http://perth.gumtree.com.au/c-Cars-Vehicles-Motorbikes-Parts-cars-Honda-Civic-VTI-94-W0QQAdIdZ310806290 like this!

wouldn't it become expensive to keep sending it to a bmw specialist for servicing etc though?

i dont know much about bmw's but ive been told they get expensive to maintain ..

no idea but i thought BMWs needed more $$ for normal maintenance ...

im just doing some research on other peoples 120Y/Ke rolla projects and see how much theyve costed them, if it doesnt seem to expensive im really quite keen on the 120Y, i dont mind waiting around till a good one pops up

if not im probably sold on the hondas - just need to decide out of civic/prelude/integra

its usually people who have not owned beemers that say they are unreliable and are high maintenance cars. i thrashed my e30 jps for ages and nothing broke. sold mine for 3.5k with a short ratio box, lsd and reground cam.

s1 s14's are cheap nowadays as well.

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
