How much are these 200l drums of fuel? Must be better then pump price buying bulk ect, keen for some 98 ron

around double the price, definately not cheaper but drums is the only way to get e85 in some areas and its the only way to get the race e85

price has just gone up to $550 a drum.

I've spent a heap of $$$ on an engine build and i'm happy to spend the extra dollars to buy sucrogen for a little while to be guaranteed the same octane/quality of fuel every time. in my opinion it's especially important during the testing/tuning phase otherwise it becomes another variable.

I'm sure spending this amount on fuel is going to sh*t me soon, but for now i just put it down to part of the expense of building a big hp motor.

And then you'll go back to the normal pump stuff once it's tuned/tested or you talking generally???

Confused

I mean ye the Sucrogen stuff is great, but then so is the price. At least the owner was funny when he got on here and started abusing people. Good for a laugh.

Yes, i can see a time where i'll be buying pump e85. hopefully the consistency will improve as i've heard of a few bad batches from rozelle. Having said that, the tuner has told me as long as the octane is above 105 then the engine will be safe.

pump e85 is not much different, if at all to drum apart from the price... just saying.

have done back to back testing with both fuels. on dynos.. no difference. the ONLY time you may have an issue is if youre tuning e85 to the absolute limit. which you shouldnt be anyway

ah yes, that douche bag... i think all our cars should have blown up by now or something should have rusted through etc etc *insert scare tactic to justify drum price*...

must go down to United soon to check what E% their E85 is... i'm guessing it'll be around E90 like last time they had it pre-floods - even more powah! :D

Sorry for the off topic, but I'm curious how you all can be happy to pay so much for fuel, like I pay $1.60 a litre for bp 98 octane, you all pay over $2.50 per litre. Is it really worth it?

Oh I thought I read up further that it's $550 for a 200litre drum.

What's your economy like. I get 400-450km from 60litres.

Just had a look and the closest and only e85 servo is a caltex 50 km from home.

A lil off topic my car was tuned on caltex eflex just wondering if any of u boys notice a power difference from uniteds e85 and the caltex e85?

I have been filling at United for the last 3 tanks, its more expensive at 10c less than unleaded and then I need to put a little 98 in also to drop the ethanol percentage until I get a tune. It definitely smells better though. I will let you know when I get it back on the dyno.

It could have possibly saved your engine though, at 20c less than unleaded it works out to around the same price as 98 to run in my car.

385rwkw on eflex, 400rwkw on E85

eflex may have been mid 60's though at the time.

that's what i was thinking scotty, get some United and just drop in a little 98 if it's like E90 until i get a touch-up - just bring the laptop with me to get the E% reading

although, the wideband should richen things up to the target AFR's in normal cruising even if it's E90

Ye sorry you've sorta missed a "in" joke from a few years back.

Basically the owner of Sucrogen got on here being a ripe tawt, saying pump E85 is a waste of time.

So that you should buy "his" stuff as it's "so much better".

I mean no doubt it is, but at almost double the price of from the local bowser... Not really viable for anyone with a car that gets used regularly. Plus you then needed somewhere to store said drums...

Have a read if you want a laugh: Click Me

Didn't you get the display Daniel?

didn't see the need really... did the baseline E85 tune from a drum of Powerplus to get an exact baseline (which it was, bang on E85), did the 98 and that's it. I mean, i'm not going to change anything depending on the E%, Trent has set that all up and i ain't going to touch that. So constantly seeing the E% would be interesting purely from a curiosity point of view, but for me, not worth the $$ especially when i can just plug the laptop in if i really needed to know (which i will when i get some United)

In hind sight, what i should have done and what people should do if setting up flex fuel is to do the 98 tune and a baseline E100 tune. IMO that's obviously going to cover all the variants.

    • That is way more science than even I would use. I just eyeball it, not even accounting for the non-verticality of the tape measure when held on the lip and the centre at the same time. +/- 2mm is good enough for the girls I go out with.
    • So, before putting them in I need to understand the stock ride height. This is how I measured it: First, check the diameter of the wheel's centre cap, it was 52mm. Then put a piece of masking tape approximately across the centre and measure 27mm (half) from at least 3 sides to get a reasonable idea of the centre of the wheel cap. Mark that with a horizontal line as one measuring point. Then, directly above the wheel on the guard, put another piece of masking tape in approximately the centre. Use a string line to find out the point on the guard above the centre of the wheel cap and mark that. Then it is simple, just a tape measure to check the distance from centre of the wheel to the centre of the guard. Final results where  LF: 381mm RF: 379mm LR: 401mm RR: 400mm Pretty even considering they are 120,000klm old factory springs, lets call that 380 front and 400 rear.
    • So....knowing that I have a problem with power steering temps on track and another Wakefield day booked in next Friday, I've done the obvious thing They are very reasonably priced at $1650, considering they are a big monotube shock, double height adjustable (don't have to change pre-load to change ride height), one way adjustable damping and standard sized and customisable springs if you want something other than what comes with them. They come with 9kg/mm front and 4.5kg/mm front and I went with that as a starting point because I'll add adjustable sway bars too https://justjap.com/products/bc-racing-coilover-kit-ds-ds-infiniti-q50-v37-14-current#description Unfortunately they didn't come with rear strut tops so I've re-used the factory ones which was a bit of a pain. Also, the adjuster for the rear shock will be an absolute nightmare to get at, and while there are extensions in the kit I can't see any way you can actually attach or use them
    • I also had 2 bulbs blow at once, years ago in the stagea. made for a fun drive home. The issue was the voltage regulator had failed in the alternator and it was giving 15+ volts. Really, I was lucky all that was fried were the headlight bulbs. So, I'd suggest you check the voltage across your battery terminals with the car running and warmed up. Yes, you will need a multimeter to do so, sorry.
    • Good work to think to check that, and thanks for coming back to post up the outcome.
