Where's your sense of adventure?

Lol.

Sense of adventure? It's already proven that the only devices that can read our car's data from the OBD2 port is either the HKS OB-Link or the Greddy Informeter, neither of which has a video output...

That's why I said its not that easy. If it was I'd have my Rasperry Pi already to rock in the car. The HKS OB Link is feasible if someone can port their Android software to Debian...

Can't Raspberry Pi run Android?

One of the guys at work has one and I'm sure he said it could.

Yes it could, but why would I bother when I can get a $130 7" Android Tablet that's 4 times more powerful then a RasPi and already has GPS, BT, Touch input display, storage, etc?

I think if you want to utilise the existing pop up display, a RasPi Carputer would be good, if you want a intergrated look and more flexibility. Other wise a cheap Android Tablet can do it all for cheaper and safer too...

Then I'm confused why you want their software ported to Debian?

Because Leon suggested a Carputer and a OBD2 connector/cable would work in our car...

IF the HKS Android software was ported to Deb then yes Carputer would work (that's if you want to display all the ECU data). Even then you'll need some sort of touch screen hooked up...

If not then a cheap tab would work just as well, if not better.

You mean like this one?

There are a few options available, I have one here on an RS wreck too. What colour are you after though?

Did a language conversion for someone that had one of these. Buttons look abit out of place but worked perfectly and they were very pleased

Ahh.... we're talking about 2 different things by the looks of it. You appear to want a solution that does everything, including a touch screen overlay to change stuff as you go, correct? Which would be very nice, btw.

I was only talking about displaying a handful of gauges on the screen (as well as having a multimedia player). The UpRev Cipher cable will do that, but there may be cheaper ones around that can read enough of the OBD data to give you something to play with.

Alrdy purchased 1 of those oem items listed in the above post, Actuallt found it cheaper than the other kits out there thru stereo mobs.

I did purchase the metro kit but opened it up & the buttons looked so tacky, so sent it straight back. Got my money back than bam purchased that 1

Not a bad price for what it is, especially compared to CAMP2.

Only problem is you need an Android powered head unit.

Or any tablet with a browser (mainly linked to it for ironpaw). But using a dual DIN head unit to display gauges would be very cool

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
    • The maxpeedingrods turbo is cheap and bolts on to stock parts. I think you just need a bigger silicone coupler for the intake. Its a cheap china turbo, but it's been running on mine for almost 3 years at 16-19 psi.
    • What do they look like right after you've tried to start it with everything connected? Also post photos of what they actually look like.
