Hey Guys,

i just brought a r33 gtst with rb3025 in it, motor has been rebuilt around 20K ago with fCP pistons, spool rods, nitto pump etc.

turbo set up is a garrett GT35R T3 0.82 external gate. running ebay exhaust manifold & wastegate & 3 inch exhaust system.

here is a dyno graph i got when i brought the car looks to have a slight boost drop, and very wavey boost line is this normal?

or could that be casued by the shit manifold & wastgate? or the 3ich exhaust system?

r33 dyno 5 9 11.pdf

yeah i thought i could be the manifold wastegate set up.

im going to throw some ID1000cc injectors in her add anthor 044 pump, change to the exhaust to a 3.5inch the whole way and add a Eboost2.

then see how she goes on around 25psi..

if i still have boost issues i guess 6boost manifold and good wastegate will go on..

The wavy part is just certain type of dynos do that I understand.

Yeah the poor boost control would be the china manifold.

So strange with a quality 2530 engine build with all the good stuff and a nice GT35R and then a cheap ebay china exhaust manifold??

nothing wrong with china manifolds. If setup correctly and modified right.

i got 4 years out of mine.. as long as you brace them and dont hang the exhaust on them they work quite good... I ran a 10 on mine.

only going to make a new one now because the exhaust was hung on it and it cracked again and we can just remake one at the shop in 2 days.

lots of hard earned money and stress has been pored into the s14.

i just went and brought something to get my mind off sh!t,

Man I have a gt3582r with a 6boost manifold, 50mm turbosmart gate, 3 inch turbo back exhaust and a stock cat. It is sucking through a z32 afm. So far I have run 20 psi and it is rock solid till my 7600 redline.

Based on my car I doubt it is your exhaust or your cat causing havoc.

well thats good to hear.

just wounder what RWKW it makes and what fuel?

i just seen my R33 has a GFB manual boost Tee not sure if this is the cause also.

Only thing i done 2 my $75 stainless manifold was cut between the runners so each runner bolts down seperately and seals perfect. got my tuner to die grind wastegate port out into 50mm hole with new piping welding on 2 suit new gate and perfecto.

Without looking at the exhaust it's impossible to say that.

A lot of jap "3 inch" exhausts actually have a 2.5-2.75 inch reducer internally where the mufflers start to reduce noise.

So they are not true 3 inch systems at all.

Without testing it, you cannot tell.

Easiest way to do so, get it on a dyno and do a before/after - after being dropping it from the dump pipe.

I was going to say something like that but was on my phone at work "hiding in the corner" so to speak.

We have different exhaust systems and what R31Nismoid says is correct. Just disconnect your dump from your front pipe, wire the front pipe up nice and high and go for a quick drive. Be aware that you will blow soot everywhere and possibly melt some wiring if you drive for very long. You will soon know if it is the exhaust making it lose boost or not. I tried running my car straight out the turbo very briefly when putting my setup together. My car lost 3 psi from putting the exhaust on but still held whatever boost till redline.

    • @Butters I can't tell you why but the bigger HKS step 2 cams improved low and mid end immensely. Turbos started spooling about 1k RPM less than before and the idle/vacuum was rock solid, it was an absolute thrill to drive, 3rd gear pulls hit 180kmh where previously only managed 160. Conversely, the milder poncoms in there now have a funky idle making it harder to get off the line, drives poorly in lower revs, laggy and makes less power/torque throughout. Feels better after I swapped the EBC but unless I put it on the Dyno again, I can't say how much better.
    • Hi Sydney kid   do you still selling spring and blistein shocks for Nissan 260rs? Air any suspension upgrades? Please advice     yudy
    • Cams are not needed at this power level, they will create lag. The cam gears are a good idea though.
    • @Murray_Calavera yeah, I guessed as much, cooler temps, more boost, less knock, more timing, hello power. Unfortunately not quite within reach ATM, could upgrade my whole fuel system to support but still wouldn't have E85 to run it 😂  Anyway, I changed cams again, 260/260 poncam B and everything else the same except an EBC upgrade. Now I must say I was quite disappointed with the result as it was like running stock cams (didn't try to dial them in as they're supposed to be optimum already) but after awhile I suspected my new EBC was underperforming not to mention difficult to use. I recently swapped back my old EBC and it drives much better now, boost comes on sooner, more stable, no spikes etc, feels all quicker and faster than with stock cams. Planning to fiddle with the cam gears and see what happens but maybe skip the Dyno as I intend to revert to the HKS cams cos they really made the car come alive; low and mid end was unbelievable and it just wanted to rev to the moon, finally knew what people were raving about, RB26 really loves revs. Anyway, Dyno 03 is quite disappointing, in Dyno 02 although peak power was less and trailed off at the top, the low and mid end improvement more than made up for it.
    • @Darrel It's so tempting to say e85 is borderline magic. It cools the intake charge, so if you're flirting with the edge of the turbos compressor map it helps dramatically cool down the hot air the turbos are pumping. It is very resistant to detonation so you can crank the timing, I don't really want to say you won't be knock limited anymore.... but you probably wont be knock limited anymore lol. I wouldn't be surprised if you made 20% more power swapping to e85 (provided you have the fuel system to support them, bigger injectors maybe bigger pump etc).
