Hi, first post in Victoria thread so please excuse any and all missed social conventions. I am thinking of buying a car in Melbourne to do up in the future (I am currently living in Japan) and am looking at some storage solutions. One of the options is buying a car space which seems like a much better long term choice than paying monthly rent for a storage unit etc. Has anyone got any information/experience? As I already said It is for long term car storage so cost is much more important than a convenient location. It must be secure and under cover. Is it a good long term investment - ie when I eventually do move the car out would it be easy enough to rent out (obviously a convenient location then becomes much more important). I have virtually no understanding of the process or obligations/rights of purchasing/owning a car space in Melbourne. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How long do you plan to need to store the car?

A car space is usually going to cost a reasonable amount, depends where it is etc.

Not sure but I think 1 to 2 years

Why not just wait? I can't see how the cost/risk of storing a car which is only going to depreciate is a better idea than just buying one when you get here.

Rare car so apart from the fact another may never come up again it should appreciate.

Hence why I wanna know how long he needs it for.

I might know someone that would happily rent out a space in a workshop for a massively lesser amount than that :)

Sounds cool whereabouts?

By the way thanks for the replies guys, really appreciate it.

If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
