yeah, its kind of like riding a rocket, you just know ist going to go hard but will also blow up eventually!!!

But for one lap it looks good.

well there were 3 458 GT3's in the top 10 at the end of the Sap 24hr this year, not bad for a car everyone seems to think won't last the 12 hours at bathurst

But what about the 4-5 DNFs~ :whistling:

I would still take a big lazy pushrod V8, flat 6 or V10/V12 over something that has to pull 9,000rpm for 24 hours. Still, was watching them at Spa a few weeks back. They are great looking things! Cant imagine the budget it would take to run one vs the Viper or Porsche

back at it again this weekend, hours in before the ran the 458GT3 has set a new official lap record in the 12 hour a 2:06.3311 with another 4 cars under the V8 Lap record

i doubt the v8's will break that record. this year is the last year they will have a chance, because under the COTF regs they will have less power, so will be lapping slower.

But they will have better suspension and handling. The GT cars peaked at around 260 - 270kph on conrod compared to the V8's knocking on 300kph. All the time is made up across the top of the mountain.

The GT cars have much better aero, but the driver reports on the COTF state that they handle a lot more like the Cup Cars

Don't forget COTF is considerably lighter than the current cars as well, and I would not be so certain about the loss of horsepower...

don't know if i'd call 100kg "considerably lighter". certainly lighter (enough to make a difference), but not massively lighter.

as for the power drop, it was mentioned in an article about the nissan v8 being used. power output is expected to be between 10 and 20% lower than it currently is, which is lower than what it was 5 or 10 years ago

You'd be mad to assume that COTF is to be slower than current cars.

Better suspension, transaxles, broader engines, specifically designed chassis instead of a monocoque.

It may take some time for engineers and drivers to grasp the chassis but they will be far from slower.

Because the commodores that were snapping timing chains do so much better in the Bathurst 12 hour...

    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them 
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
    • You have a knack for photography my friend. It makes the 86 look like a complete bucket. The 34 went with you to Europe and back. It's special. (we all feel the same about our 'shitboxes' that every bystander seems to absolutely love)
