I don't know what new ones cost or if they're available.

FWIW $620 from rhdjapan. Ouch.

Do put a set of the right 0.8 gap copper plugs in before anything else. See djr's quote in my sig

So new brand coilpacks don't just bolt up? Bah got more reading to do I see,

I had wound my boost controller. Ack one click. Weird thing is I'm still maki almost 1 bar boost... Anyway in the cooler weather it seems to not miss

But on first start up u need to rev a few times cos it can die after falling the revs. After a couple of throttle blips it stay in idel but does have a misfire on idle still, I will start with plugs

This probably has nothing to do with your plugs. I, and about a thousand other skyliners, have this issue. First cold start, the car will often die down or struggle then kick back up after a tap of the throttle. Ive got almost a new everything that you can get bolted onto the motor and its still there. Another guy replaced even more parts with brand new genuine parts and the issue is still there. NFI what causes it or how to fix it.

Oh, you can get new coils that will just bolt up, but only ones that still need the ignitor pack you already have (or a workign version of same if yours is borked). My suggested plan was what I would do if faced with a dying igniter on an R32 or S1 motor right now. That's because buying a set of new Splitfires with igniters built in costs the same as buying some with no igniters. So you get new coils, throw the old igniter in the scrap bin, spend some coin and effort on wiring the new coils in and Bob's your older male relative.

I recon you'll find its air in fuel line, after being sat for a while, mine does that too, i dont have anything stock and it can do it, prime fuel twice, bingo

Without starting to go too off topic, they found the opposite. Dont prime and it will start alot better. See the general automotive section. The threads in there
GTSBOY have u tried wiring in S2 coilpacks? Ive never thought of trying it???
No, not tried. But it can't be any harder than doing a Falcon coilpack conversion. Got to be easier in fact, because of not needing to deal with diodes etc. All the same wiring and signals are there, just need to connect the ECU wires that were originally connected to the igniter direct to the new coilpack loom, deal with the power supply and earthing and it's done.

I asked about doing it in a thread a while back and Rolls said he's seen it done plenty of times, so apparently they didn't change the signal voltage or make any other changes when integrating the ignitor with the coilpack. So +1 to GTSBoy's suggestion - just do it.

ok so i apologies i mixed my threads up a bit so i will recap,

i spoke about this here

other thread

but i will recap

this was the major problem i found leadin into the intake, massive split. replaced it and it removed allof of the dramas, mush better idle and solved almost off of the boost problems.

Interestingly also it made massive boost when fixed and the waste gate is working allot better so yeah allot explained.

HOWEVER!

i am still hunting idel from about 900 - 1100 and i do have a hickup on idel, allot lot less but i do have a random boost cut and i get thrown forward when it missifres.

ok so...

i replaced my spark plugs today with NGK copper BCP5RES plugs ( i couldnt find BCP6RES) so i hope the heat rating wont make a difference?

all plugs i took out looked fine appart from the front most which was black not grey

in order

dunno what this tells me?

also we did a compression test which gave me interesting results

whats going on here?

i have not checked my tune yet cos i canot afford a $600 nistune remap at the moment

i have been told my gtr injectors are new and my bosh 440 is new and my coilpacks are new but you know who knows.

can my lifters or injectors be causing this? im a little lost but hoping the tollorences on the cylinder compressions are not dangerous?

also just to throw a spanner in the works this is a weird one, if i turn RIGHT hard...it misfires badly if i boot it...

    • Was going to say the car pulls up nicely everywhere, especially going into that last long right hander before the main straight. Looks like a lot of fun.
    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump. So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort. Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
