No R36 - R35 End Of The Line!

I recently heard a rumour from sources in Japan that, The 2012/13 Nissan R35 is the last GTR for at least this decade?

Apparently Nissan have achieved their goal of smashing the World and burning their reputation into the sports car scene as the producers of the World's best ever performing value for money super car.

It makes sense when you consider how long the R34 magic lasted, years after they stopped making them.

It may be anywhere between 5 to 8 years before we see an R36?

Anyway, if this is the case, it will be interesting to see the affect this will have on the value and demand of used R35's.

Has anybody else heard the same?

my intention was to sell the r35 when the r36 is released.... looks like I'll be hanging onto this car for a while then

we'll know for certain by about mid year to see if they start working on a 2013 (US 2014)

if true, may even look at buying a 100% stock spec v out of japan for the collection

I have heard a few arguments suggesting this couldn't happen with all the investment made in GTR facilities at dealerships, but I am sure our dealer delivery charges and hourly labour rate for GTR techs has nicely covered those little investments!

the more you think about it, the more it makes sense

dealers will continue to profit from the servicing of the existing cars, and more so as they start changing hands on used market and km's rack up exponentially

with the shift towards green energy, there is no doubt the next GTR will employ some form of hybrid tech. And I don't believe any manufacturers are anywhere near using this tech in high performance app's. It'll take them years of development to fine tune it

plus there's no where more to go with the current drip feed power increase on the r35. They'd be at the limit now of factory warrantied power levels (hence the small power jump in 2012 for marketing above all else). Doubtful they'd invest in an improved gearbox or change engine internals this late in the cycle to warranty over 600hp. They've also run out of chassis tuning ideas - read stiffer springs on one side to counter balance drivers weight in a 1700+kg car is pure wank

Possible. Maybe something like a series 2.

Good example is the MkiV Toyota Supra that ran from 1993 to 2002, mainly cosmetic with some mechanical upgrades.

I'd "imagine" Nissan would do something similar (as there is money to be made on a proven formula). Probably some more cosmetic tweaks, maybe a direct injection engine with variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust with lift.... Maybe introduce flex fuel.

While they still sell in US and worldwide they will still make them, providing they are profitable.

The days of large businesses making these sorts of decisions based on ideologies alone are long gone. Nissan know they have a responsibility to their shareholders to make as much cash as they can, the slick wankers in charge aren't car enthusiasts. They are money hungry narcs and they will stop at very little to make more money, it's what they do. I don't see them binning a hugely successful, iconic and profitable car just because they have achieved some fluffy goal.

You want a chunky prediction? We will see the R36 this decade.

Completely agree.

Even if we look at the engine emissions legislation we can be positive and confident that VR38DETT is not going to disappear in a hurry.

Euro 6 is only starting on the Sept 2014.

    • The oil pressure sensor for logging, does it happen to be the one that was slowly breaking out of the oil block? If it is,I would be ignoring your logs. You had a leak at the sensor which would mean it can't read accurately. It's a small hole at the sensor, and you had a small hole just before it, meaning you could have lost significant pressure reading.   As for brakes, if it's just fluid getting old, you won't necessarily end up with air sitting in the line. Bleed a shit tonne of fluid through so you effectively replace it and go again. Oh and, pay close attention to the pressure gauge while on track!
    • I don't know it is due to that. It could just be due to load on track being more than a dyno. But it would be nice to rule it out. We're talking a fraction of a second of pulling ~1 degree of timing. So it's not a lot, but I'd rather it be 0... Thicker oil isn't really a "bandaid" if it's oil that is going to run at 125C, is it? It will be thicker at 100 and thus at 125, where the 40 weight may not be as thick as one may like for that use. I already have a big pump that has been ported. They (They in this instance being the guy that built my heads) port them so they flow more at lower RPM but have a bypass spring that I believe is ~70psi. I have seen 70psi of oil pressure up top in the past, before I knew I had this leak. I have a 25 row oil cooler that takes up all the space in the driver side guard. It is interesting that GM themselves recommend 0-30 oil for their Vette applications. Unless you take it to the track where the official word is to put 20-50w oil in there, then take that back out after your track day is done and return to 0-30.

    • I take it that the knock retard is from bearings tapping a little tune? Thicker oil is a fragile bandaid. You need a much bigger oil cooler and probably the bigger pump being discussed.
