These comparos are hilarious the GT-R is going to kill pretty much anything.

Id like to see a more evenly matched comparo with say an aventador or even 458Italia,

Mclaren mp4c these cars are more evenly matched against the gtr even if they cost 3x as much :)

M5,M3,c63,rs5 don't even come close when comparing performance.

I was surprised to read the c63 and TT RS are pretty close to the R35 in the 80-120 comparison, but behind

in pretty much everything else.

v8 engine sounds through the speakers because they cant make the engine/exhaust sound like its supposed to = the M legacy is well and truely over

.....and people ask me why i refuse to accept low ball offers on my parked up E46 M3 individual convert

Edited by domino_z

Oh, how can you have a convertible M car yet think the legacy is over because of some artificial sound enhancement?

Everyone was complaining when the I6 went away, everyone will complain when the S65 V8 goes away too but so far it seems BMW M are on track.

The styling on the new M6 is fantastic.

X5/6M is another matter of course!

Great video and sensible conclusion! I'm a huge Harris fan, probably my favorite of his would be his 458 v Gt3RS vid...Beautifully done.

the S54 sounds better topless

M cars are all about the engine.... the chassis are no different to the base model

The S54 was my favourite sounding of all M engines...the raspiness in the upper RPM range, thanks to ITBs, gave it a race ready sound that all inline sixes should have. Wouldn't consider the M legacy to be over though...just the times they are a changin'.

SMG or manual? I have good memories of being thrown around in my seat by the harshest SMG setting, which felt like it was going to snap the tailshaft, accompanied by said rasp.

mine's a mid 2005 smg so one of the last built - paint and interior are from the individual program

yeh the smg is harsh in the fastest settings, with stability off you get a 6th even faster tail shaft snapping setting - and because of that ive never dared to use the LC (in my own car  ). If you leave it in the 3rd or 4th setting and just ease of the accelerator mid-shift it is very smooth. Also shift quality is dependant on maintenance. I have friends who buy wholesale'd cheap M3's with 100K+ km on original clutch and they are dogs to drive. I replaced my clutch at 40K kms and it feels as good as new.

the coupe's have a bad issue with cracking subframes - violent smg shifts wouldn't help

the shifts do feel slow after getting used to the dual clutch in the gtr/sls, but then jumping in the ferrari, maser, etc i do prefer the softer smg over the neck snapping f1 shifts

with work vs-xx

and now that ive put the oem 19s back on to keep it looking oem

Good clean example

I'll always be partial to the black coupes...can't be choosy though, it's difficult to find any E46 that hasn't been thrashed out.

    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
    • Legend. I ended up finding the facebook account of the owner of the first car i sent but sadly he deactivated the account. I think you’re right in saying it’s some sort of well done custom job. Really appreciate your help anyways.
    • Totally equivalent. Stock often goes from the comp cover because that's where the actuator is also installed and the factory needs 2" of hose to make the connection - and it comes as a pre-assembled unit. They totally have a boost reference from somewhere between the turbo and the throttle(s). Oh, jeez. Just do it in M12 then. We don't actually care that much. I would expect any such AN converter fitting to rely on an o-ring or some other seal onto a flat surface under the flange of the hex**, because bolt threads are no intended to provide a pressure seal. unlike..... pipe threads. **which also requires a suitably flat and smooth surface on the turbo's boss to provide the seal.
    • I also used NP   That’s were it’s seems to be the best place to fit it? All schematic shows also that it’s should be referenced from the turbo housing. But idk, I do see high hp cars without any connection or anything to their turbos, so I really don’t know how they connect their things
