Recommend Me A Pre Purchase Inspection Mob

Recommended Posts

After a bit of searching, I can't find any current information about who to take a car to if i wanted to get it pre purchased inspected.

Has anybody done one recently?

If so how was it?

How much?

And what was the car you got inspected?

I personally am i looking at R33 GTR's.

find an import mechanic (with good reputation) close to the seller and drop it off there.

Although they may not pick up the dents, scratches or resprays but they will know what to look for on the mechanical sides

I wouldnt get a generic tester like them half the blokes don't know anything about skylines/imports

yeah you prob should take to a mechanical work shop to just go over mechanicals..after all if it looks straight jsut how bad can it be..

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/234895-dont-buy-this-1993-r33-gts-t/

I had a mixed response from Stateroads. They picked up a lot of good 'generic car' stuff and was very helpful. However, they couldn't pick a backyard NA+T job over a GTT (neither could I, I was new to it all).

Would recommend taking it to a workshop as well as stateroads, if you know the car has mods/has been modded to get a 2nd opinion.

Go to a jap work shop but make sure you book your self a time and state that you want a FULL inspection, compression test, mechanical inspection and structural.

Ive been to two "reputable" workshops which i wont name, and they did a "inspection" on my car, one of them hardly looked at the car! So make sure whereever you take it, insist on full inspection, no cost spared!

Id be doing: compression test, check mechanical, lift it on hoyst and check under car, check for rust and prior accidents, dyno run etc

for things like that pretty sure fast will supply answers iirc

Thats the vibe i am getting from the quick search i did, although nothing really in concrete on the forum.

I was quoted $340 for a pre purchase inspection. Bit steep compared to chasers charging $120 + $40 for a leak down.

He said his pre purchase would tell me if it has been in a accident, compression test, leak down test, physical inspection, also the use of some camera that will give him a idea on how the engine is inside? (never heard of that before).

Said he would need it for a whole day too.

Man looking for a skyline that is well priced and in decent condition for the price is very hard...Then getting them RWC sounds like something only superman could achieve, with all the pods and exhausts that come standard on GTR's...maybe i should just look for another car all together!

The out come looks bleak fellas.. :(

a mate at work used stateroads i think... they sent him back a massive report detailing the scratches on the under trays and front bar.. even the amount of stone chips on the front bar..

Unfortunately Stateroads get a lot of good and bad reviews, however I have noticed that every year their price goes up. I paid $215 back in the day, I say it was worth it, however not so sure for $340 now especially with all the bad reviews coming around.

You will find a lot of good things about Chasers on this forum

PS. That little camera thing is just an inspection cam, you can pick one up for about $100 at Total tools, have one myself but it's a little disorienting when you get into things cause you don't know which way is up. It's cool though

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
