does anyone have any info on how to import a 87-89 911 turbo from japan, is it the same rule as for gtr's and so on, does anyone have any contact info where i can speak to someone about it.

Same rules, ie , the car must be 15 years old or more to the month.

95% of them were LHD though which can be a hassle as very few states will allow them to stay that way and RH conversion done properly will be around $8-11K

Cheers

Ken

Personally I dont think its worth it.

Servicing is way too high for a car of that age.

For example, one of the porsche's at a local auction in sydney had a repair bill listed on it, before sale. It was an 80s model 911. Repair bill was in excess of 10k !!! Close to 15k i think.

Stick with nissans

:D

It's still worth it in a sense considered all the old shape can be converted to looks like a 993 (the last of the original aircooled 911's) - that's my intention anyway. 993's are still worth closer to $100k mark so if a $30-40k car looks like it's worth near $100k I reckon I am in front. LOL.

dont get me wrong tommyk i love my nissan and probably wont ever sell it,( maybe in 10 years or hand it dont to my son) but i love porsches too, my car is currently a high maintanance car, monthly servicing, change of oil and filter every 2-3thousand k's, spark plugs, and the rest of shit i have to go through every time i race or drive it.

so i think that the porsche cant be that hard, my mate had a 930 turbo was immaculate baby blue, very quick machine and he didnt have any problems with it, other then going through a wall and 2 fences after trying to pop hellies in it, but hey what can you do.

Yeah call up PR Technology in Sydney before even thinking about one. I was just thinking about a RUF enhanced 911SC and I was freaked out the engine rebuild gonna cost more than a OS Giken 3L kit for my GTR...........

why are they so expensive? what makes porshe engines different to other engines? ( i dont mean your average 6 cyl )

Tommyk: your car doesn't need much maintenance that's because I didn't rip you off LOL :P

Skyline_boy: no idea why it's so expensive besides I've told them to do it properly. Maybe that means half the stuff aren't factory parts anymore..

Funny enough a lot of Porsche parts aren't all that expensive, ie GT3 rotors are $200 each, GT3 4 Pot calipers $750 a pop and pads for em is like $200 a set. Then again that's on par with Nissan prices...oh air filter/oil filter these sorta day to day stuff aren't all that dear either. It's just that when it comes to rebuilding them it gonna eat your heart out.

    • Yeah, I'm not interested in wetting the carpets, and I don't care about brown dirt/dust that lives deep in the pile or underneath. It's not like I crawl around on them in my birthday suit or eat dropped food off them (because there is never any open food in my car). The seats are alcantara (cheap Chinese imitation alcantara, to be sure!) with barely 1" of foam pad behind the surface. That's not getting wet either. Any car that I would be happy to get the interior wet, I would not care to put the effort into.
    • We have one that holds 2.8L of water. On floor carpet that hasn't been touched in 2 or 3 years, will take a minimum of 2 fills of the tank to do a bedroom, and that's going AROUND the bed.   In the cruiser, I used an ENTIRE 2.8L tank, just on the front passenger footwell. But it had some fungus growing, and had been full of mud from being used as a 4WD for many years. I can do that floor again, and it will still pull mud out. However, the water now only looks dirty, not pitch black and leaving full sludge in the bottom of the tank it sucks back into. Oh, and, this is about a $1500 unit.
    • This is mine, works a treat for the cars, suction is good, I use the Bissell clean and protect stuff I have found giving it a good spray and light scrub with the soft brush on the head of the nossle for carpet, and a rub with a microfibre for cloth seats and cloth door trims, prior to another quick spray before vacuuming it up works the best @GTSBoy You would surprised on what it gets out of carpet and seats that actually "look" clean, I recommend that you test drive yours when you have a little time to kill, then post pics of the muddy looking water that I believe you will find
    • I think even the "commercial" capacity ones that you would hire from supermarkets etc wouldn't have the capacity to do all that much in one go. I will go through half a dozen tanks of solution and dumps/rinses of the waste tank for one little 2 seat sofa. Or similar for one 6 footish rug. That's the price you pay for something small that only takes up a bit of cupboard space, instead of something that takes up the entire laundry cupboard or half the shed.
    • Someone needs to copy it, improve it aesthetically, make it DBW ready from day 0 and send it to the motherland Chynah for my relatives to cast it and mass produce it 😅
