Very limited info on this. I have the oem single din cd unit. Im looking at installing a single din replacement headunit and have a problem with what wires go where. I have hdtv installed so ull be installing the sound into the aux option so thats sorted. Will the nissan harness work with the m35 for easy install. If anyine has done this successfully can you please run me and everyone else.what you did and what colour wires you used. I keeping the factory display .

Thanks josh

go and buy a nissan to ISO harness. then an ISO to whatever brand. that way, no cutting of wires.

you might need the antenna connection adaptor also...........

if you have an aftermarket TV tuner, run a pair of RCAs to the head unit from the tuner in the boot. if you only have the stock tuner, i have no idea haha

You can test the speaker wires with a 9v battery, simply place one wire on the +ve and touch the other to the -ve terminal .once you find the pair of wires for a particular speaker ( nothing will happen if you dont have the 2 wires for the same speaker...look at the diaphragm/cone to see its pulsing outward so you know the signal is in phase, if it's out of phase the cone will move in reverse.

Label up and wire accordingly, also use solder and heat shrink, never twist and leccy tape. You will have issues down the track

Ok so went out and got the head unit yesterday, chose a Sony CDX-GT700UI MP3 CD Player with USB/Ipod Function, AUX input and 3 pre outs. i have also ordered a nissan 2 to 1 aerial jack for the stagea. After finding a diagram i got sent a while ago by Leon (commsman) i have figured out the following.

Black - Earth - Connect to Chassis - (Attach First)

Red - Acc Power/On Position - Pin 10 - (LG)

Yellow - Constant Power - Pin 6 - (Y)

Orange/White - Illuminate Signal - Pin 8 - (R/L)

Blue ATT - Car Phone Option - NIL - NOT NEEDED

Blue ANT - Antenna Power Supply - Pin 5 - (R/W)

Blue/White - Amp Ren - NIL - Run to amps

Grey - Front R+ - Pin 4 - (BR)

Grey/Black - Front R- - Pin 3 - (B/R)

Purple - Rear R+ - Pin 16 - (OR)

Purple/Black - Rear R- - Pin 15 - (B/P)

Green - Rear L+ - Pin 14 - (LG)

Green/Black - Rear L- - Pin 13 - (B/Y)

White - Front L+ - Pin 2 - (L)

White/Black - Front L- - Pin 1 - (B/W)

From the GI section "How to read wiring diagrams" of pretty well any Nissan FSM

This shows a code for the color of the wire.

B = Black

W = White

R = Red

G = Green

L = Blue

Y = Yellow

LG = Light Green

BR = Brown

OR = Orange

P = Pink

PU = Purple

GY = Gray

SB = Sky Blue

CH = Dark Brown

DG = Dark Green

When the wire color is striped, the base color is given first, followed by the stripe color as

shown below:

Example: L/W = Blue with White Stripe I Hope this Can Help People In the future with their installs and add to this.

A really good suggestion, Ian. Just curious, though; do you happen to know which harness would work for the Nissan to ISO bit? I've seen a few floating around, with various years and model specific but cant really find one that pertains to G/V35 skyline but I have found one for the 350z.

Not sure if the 350z one will work, though...

Cool, I have that one on my watch list. Curious, do these cable pass on any of the vehicle information? To clarify that a little, (even I had to re-read that), I've got a Pioneer AVIC-F920BT to throw in the car once I get it in the driveway and the built-in GPS has an input for the speed signal. Does the harness pass on that data or does it need to be tapped from the speedo somehow?

Hopefully I'll be able to play around with it all soon as the car gets delivered to the compliance shop shortly, if it isn't there already =)

No, the wiring harness won't contain any of that, you'll need to pick up speed signal from the ECU or somewhere similar

To find out what wires are what in the factory loom, check the InstallDr PDF...

http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/Nissan-Wiring.asp

Speed data is sent down the CAN data line, you cannot tap into it for speed without a decoder. There is apparently a 4 wire brown plug taped to the loom above the cig lighter which may have speed pulse output but I have yet to try and find it.

The only reason I can think of as to why a GPS needs an auxillary speed input is to provide some sort of info when going through a long tunnel or in an underground carpark. If that's the case, & because all cars are different, it probably calibrates itself with the speed variable frequency of the speed signal against GPS speed. Then it knows how fast you are going even if it can't see the satellites.

If all that sounds like what it does/needs, then you can use the same speed signal that a cruise control uses to maintain vehicle velocity. There's 2 wire locations you can use. Both are relatively easy to find & one in particular (blue one) is right beside the stereo. They are documented in this thread: http://www.m35stagea.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=282

Cheers, Leon.

I think that's exactly what the speed signal is used for, Leon, thanks!

Found this after confirming Leon's theory: "In addition to the GPS antenna the navigation takes input signals from the car’s speed sensor and reverse light wires, but these two only aid in sheer accuracy and aren't strictly required."

Again, thanks Leon. I'll have a shot at using the wires described and will send you a PM regarding those Cruise Control kits; they're certainly something I want to throw in there too. =)

Glad I could help. It was just a guess but I couldn't think of any other reason a GPS would need those inputs.

Sorry Dom, I won't be able to help with a cruise control, but if you read the EOI thread there will be info on where else you can get one.

Thats cool, I'll have a poke around the EOI thread and see what's what. =)

I got a sony unit with a aux jack in the front. I connect the tv tuner video to oem tuner. I then ran audio cables under floor from audio jack in tuner to the aux jack in head unit. To listen to tv I just select aux option. Works great. Hope this helps. You just need a red/white audio plug to single headphone jack. So much better than oem headunit.

Hi All,

Just curios, can you keep the original head unit and run an auxiliary input into so that a phone/mp3 player can play through the existing M35 stereo & head unit? My aim is to have a cable with headphone jack coming out somewhere near the centre console, allowing us to play from mp3 player or phone. Anyone have advice or experience with this?

If it doesn't have an aux switch on the front then you can't.

I have the single DIN CY230 cd player which doesn't have any aux.

I'm looking at installing a media player into the tv tuner via rca.

The TV Tuner does have aux in but it's a 6 pin square plug.

I'm trying to source a lead.

    • The average previous owner for these cars were basically S-chassis owners in the US. Teenagers or teenager-adjacent. I often tell people that neglect is easier to fix than something that was actively "repaired" by previous owners.
    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
    • I’m not sure what happened I told them about sonic tunes free OTS tune and the next the I know .. I was booted..   To funny
