Hey guys, ive got an NM35 Stagea, and randomly the electronic boot latching mech decides not to work.

i pulled the fuse and it started working again... 2 days later, it stopped working again.

any ideas or tips to what could be causing this?

only happened since the tow bar was installed... but they shouldnt have touched any wiring to do with the latch....

anyone had this issue before?

i had one that stopped working. it required a motor replacement.

if you get stuck, inside the tailgate there is a small access panel. remove the cover and flick the switch up to unlockthe tailgate. its the manual catch.

if it turns out you need a new tailgate motor i have 2 working ones

Don't make this information public to backpackers; or my entertainment is over.

Mind you once the cable ties are on; they aren't very dextrous.

yeah i know about the release, which would come in handy if i could actually shut my dam boot!

i know these cars have super sensitive electrics, but a simple splice in the harness for the trailer harness could not have an affect on the boot latch could it.

they would be different circuits....

Joel, M35 electrics are like the mob - everything's connected, lol. I'd be a bit suss about the towbar wiring. I don't believe in coincidences, so if the problem only started since that was installed then.....maybe.

The only time my tailgate wouldn't stay closed (would shut then open again) was when my battery was going flat. But then I also had weird stuff happening to dash lights, so if you don't have any other symptons I have to go with suggestion number 1 above.

Good luck.

PS Dale Milat, the Fed's will go easy on you if you save them the time searching & lead them to the shallow graves.

Fair dinkum; you murder one backpacker, and everyone rolls out the Milat jokes...

Went for a walk in Belanglo with a young German girl the other day, "Gee it's scary out here at night" she says, I replied; "You think it's scary, I have to walk out by myself"...

Back on topic;

I'm with Leon though; you're at the right end of the car, wouldn't do any harm to get it back to them for a look.

    • I am well aware as I did rant at him to buy a MX5, buy the 2.5 before he DIY'ed it, etc as well as do things to the holden. He will obtain a ND. It's the best of both worlds. They look great in person, definitely the best looking one. Just a matter of time now.

    • ouch! how is the car now?I had sold my gtr but have been looking into some on trademe and a 260RS but I wouldnt be keen on any repairs needed on them
    • This sounds like someone who would have owned an R33 in their past... It's okay, I'm 100% picking up what you're putting down Mark.
    • Just back on what was raised about jacking off the the tow/tie down point on the front of cars. I've used it plenty. I've also watched it on a car where you could see it move the front end of the car. It was like the front end/whole car being tweaked and twisted a bit. I will say, I struggle to find good jacking points on MOST cars. The ones that have good points, I then normally struggle to find a jack tall enough to make the car change height!   One of my go to points for either the jack, or the axel stands though, is either a suspension pickup point, OR a subframe to chassis major bolting point. I actually think its the subframe on my R33 that has a bit of a bend in it, from being jacked in the middle too. However, it could have been one of my many other cars I've had over the years! Or it could also be the from me jacking it up, and the fact the top of the front radiator support isn't there, so it can allow the front of the car to move and bend etc.
