hey guys just filled up again at calwell caltex and once again its dirty.

this has happened 3 times in the last 6months. Also my gf used to fill her car with gas there until they decided that water was a good additive.

SO AVOID!

On the contrary bp at fyshwick ultimate usually sees good prices around $1.56

Also united now have 100ron on pump in fyshwick.

just thought i would share

srsly - 100ron ?

Hmmm

Dirty fuel can be created when the tankers come in and stir the under ground tank up.

There's a certain amount of yuk and water that gets messed about. Never fill up if theres a tanker in the drive way.

How do you know it's dirty. Only way i know is when your car starts missing and farting.

Never let your own tank get down under a Qtr or so.

Ps. I only use shell Vortex and sometimes BP ulitimate.

its definately dirty fuel 20ks after i had fill ed up its starts missing and pulsing and then its fine again then back to shit. be glad when this tank is done.

Question.

How do you see it's dirty?

Curious if you take a sample or something

i would say you wouldnt be able to see anything, if you could i would be worried. would have to take it to a chemist or similar, however i not going to jump to conclusions. will be draining this weekend, will sample it and compare to fresh fuel, if i find anything will post.

I pretty much only fill up at BP Kingston, BP Phillip, or occasionly at the Caltex at O'Halloran/Drakeford Kambah.

And BP Watson (Federal Hwy) on the weekends I head to Sydney.

Never had a problem ever!

I fill up my GTR and 135i regularly at Calwell and have never had a problem.

Claiming contaminated fuel is serious, and most fuel companies will not hesitate turning off stock from that tank and sampling it if they think there is a chance of contamination (read: enough people complain).

I suggest you contact the service station and also log a complaint online at http://www.environment.gov.au/atmosphere/fuelquality/complaint.html

I put in a complaint with caltex on monday. they called me wednesday to get details. drained my fuel tank, took a sample and have been flushing it through from the hard lines in engine bay. will be interesting to see what they say back.

  • 3 weeks later...

I always fill up with 98 at Calwell as its near my home and the price is usually ok and not ever once had a problem.

Would be curious to find out the results from your sample though.

    • Just a thought, was that car and auto at any point of its life? If so, maybe whoever bridged the inhibitor switch/circuit did a not so good job.
    • Wife wanted basket things in the wardrobe in our temporary house. Thought about ripping our the wardrobe and fitting the entire IKEA set, but it's a temporary house and we want to move in a few years. So IKEA advertises this as a 50cm unit, however the actually basket and rails measure 46cm wide. Only issue was depth, IKEA stuff is quite deep, where as the builder special junk is super shallow at less than 40cm. Send it, chopped the rails, then offset the mounting holes, job done, happy wife, less shit scattered all over the bedroom. Did the same to the other side too. Also drove the Skyline shit box today, dropped off oil at Supercheap Auto. I didn't realise they only now take max 2x bottles per visit. I visited 2x Supercheap Autos.
    • I've seen similar actually in my situation. You never know what tables are attempted to be used when the car thinks it's -99C or +200C. The fail state is not usually that extreme but you know what I mean - it was in my case though! This is where being able to read all the sensors is useful cause you see this stuff really quickly.
    • The above is very important. However as long as you keep timing relatively low, it's plausible to make your own knock ears and plausible to learn to tune with a modern ECU that can do wideband O2 correction like a boost controller. I mean if you only have one viable road to even drive the car on, learning to tinker to this level may be worth doing given you can't do much else with the car...?
    • I find the fact that the rear plate has to be bent inwards at the rear not so bad: but the front is just awful: It's like come on. (these are my very old, now retired/turned in plates) TBH it is a lot of money to fix a minor issue, the fact I said "I'll never really spend the money on doing this" is why people ended up buying them as a gift for a 'car guy' who can be hard to shop for.. for car guy things.
