Hey all !

Yesterday was the Rexnet forum's track day, which I tagged along to enjoy the beauty that is racing around Wakefield park. Great day all in all.. A couple of casualties:

A 180sx with an electrical fire under the dash

EVO6 with a siezed engine

1 blown turbo

Other than that a fairly good day.. Everybody had a great time and us Skylines showed the Rex's a thing or two about real racing with rear wheel drive.. A lot of good drifting and fast times. Hat off to Frankie's R34 GTT which proved to be the real monster of the track. Great sound from that exhaust!!!

Here are some pictures from the day... Most are of my R33 at stages.. Note the picture with a dirt cloud up the top of the screen, and my car around the bottom corner - caused by one very wide drift - oops :D

hey giles! good to meet you down there, i didnt know you were on sau? i thought you were a work mate of damo's?

anyways, yeah top day, as per usual!!!

next trackday for the rexnet guys will be the 27th of august...carlo has a trackday on the 17th and there is something going on on the 16th too...i think a UAS day.

thanks to 2 people from sau! andrew (for the photos especially) and duncan for their unrequited love and support :P i even managed to get some private driving tuition from the master himself and i experienced, in my own car, some of duncan's driving talent!!! :headspin: with smoothness comes quicker laptimes!

FRANKS_3.jpg

benm, i think i dropped into the 12's, but thats hoping.... ;)

Actually I reckon that car of urs is a very nice steer :P you've gotta expect a 1400kg car to roll a bit no matter how much spring or roll bar you have.

You were having a good drive out there too, its a shame there was so much traffic in some of the sessions, I didn't actually get a time on a lap where you weren't held up so I'm not sure what times....damn quick tho....

yeah rightio. fat bastard the car is, even with my weight in the driver seat its rollin that much! hahaha what a bus! :P

surprisingly it only really got busy when the track was open to all categories in the afternoon? aside from that, i thought it was perfect? only 7 to 8 cars on for each session...

yeah of course I am on here - I'm a mate of damo's and the guys from rexnet, but do remember - I drive a skyline and have some good taste of forum's, hence why this is my main place to be ;)

nah, clutch is still f***ked but I ran low boost on the day so not to stress it out too much.. what an awesome day...

merli - awesome pictures man... started off by saying that you didn't think they were great, but they turned out fantastic. i asked if you would do my wedding day, but i don't think my future bride would be happy with getting married in a drifting skyline down Wakefield's straight... :P

and franks - awesome car - i think you heard me say it about 17 thousand times; but the sound of it at full throttle.... wow! if i were a chick, i'd root ya..

definitely have some good idea's of things I would like to do with the car after seeing some work that the other boys in skylines have done to their to get the type of performance... unreal show boys!!!!

Giles..

wow, what a compliment! :D but im not into chicks who dig my ride only ;)

heres some movies from a mates incar video mount. sorry about the exposure but the camera was obviously setup abit incorrectly. i've ripped them to wmv9 so you should be able to set the video brightness and contrast down a little.

more to come this w/e, including a circuit battle between yours truly and a bloody quick typeR integra (was doing 11's all day)....watch this space ;)

    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
