Hi,

I've read that the Stag has an electric/self closing boot. Although, I can't figure out how this works?

All I know is that if I pull the boot door down close to being closed, it will close itself the rest of the way.

Seems like a pretty pointless feature??

Don't have to slam the boot lid tho...

That stops sound pressure wave from bouncing around inside & annoying passengers, or worse, waking a sleeping child. Not pointless at all imo. :)

It works pulling the boot down to a point but it stops just before is closed and slows down and closes the rest slowly and does make muh or any noise at all. Its not like a full electric boot like on a audi q7

On mine, one is and one isn't.

Getting the isn't to is , is taking a lot of mucking around. There is a feed wire missing from the input loom to where it connects to the loom in the tail gate. Seems I have to get the head lining out and get a wire from the cargo space light. I think??????????????

  • 2 weeks later...

i wonder if this is what i could have in my series 1?

i also struggle to shut the boot, those struts, mine have just been replaced i believe and the first time i opened the boot it nearly lifted me clean off the ground

However once i shut my boot, as soon as it locks shut i hear a [how to explain] electrical kind of noise like a motorized sound, everytime i shut the boot it will make that noise, and i have no idea what it is?

your stagea has a (like post states) self closing boot ,when closed to slightly ajar the motor engages and pulls the boot closed.

    • Why are you so adamant on going M12? Why not follow Brad (GTSBoy) suggestion. You're talking moving from a 1/8" size, to a 1/2" effectively. 4 times bigger. Why skip the commonly available sizes in between? The bigger you go, the more likely you are to strip the threads out at a later date, as guaranteed, someone will put a huge spanner on the M12 and really tighten it up, and you're only in thin wall, so not a lot of threads to engage!
    • Hi. Yeah thanks. Car is already at tuners and it staying there to resolve "many" issues they do not like. So it is in a good hands. Getting a good tune on that Nistune ECU too so the car would be good. Just needs a little tune up and love.
    • Probably gonna remove manifold and turbo. I’m not sure if I can get M12 x 1.5 air tight. Could use high temp Loctite 246 or something similar, but I don’t know. Maybe it’s just best to remove everything again and weld an 1/8NPT on there instead.
    • Yeah, saw the ratios, not impressed. Would like the punch I have in the first gears now. With those ratios it won't be the same.  Also want the h pattern gearing, or at least a quiet gear set that don't need to come apart for service each year. Looks like the only "reasonable" way Is a 8hp70 transmission, but where is the fun in that🤷‍♂️
