Hey guys i know its not a skyline but you guys will know all because after all its an rb25.

Well the car drowned(fully under water, dnt ask haha) had a snorkel but obviously not sealed. Motor had water in it and now it wont turn over fully, i put a wrench on the harmonic balancer nut and it will turn over to a point then i have to go bak the other way till it gets to the same point again. Also when i go to turn it goes soft hard soft hard, i thought with the spark plugs out it would be all the same resistance? Have i bent the rods?

Im half way in removing the head, nearly at the stage of undoing the head bolts. So i will know more tomorow.

Its an S1 RB25 BTW, i might have to do a rb25/30.

For those reading thanks for your time as i know its not a skyline :)

Guys i know somethings buggered hence im taking the head off, just thought it might be a valve bent stopping it from fully turning over, if its the rods, ill get the head worked a bit and just throw a RB30 A6 bottom end in it. Looks like its a pretty straight forward conversion

really? Sorry mate someone has told me that even with a bent rod it should still turn over, so i just assumed valve because i know these arnt free flowing.

Rb30 here i come haha. Can i use the rb25 ecu with the 30 bottom end?

Thanks for the replies

Hey guys got the head off today, what should I do to the head while it's off? Like I might aswell do it up abit. It looks like cyl 3 and 4 have bent rods, so instead of doing the 30 bottom end I'll see if I can source some cheap rods, does anyone have some laying around?

Cheers

try get a running motor. pulling the motor appart will cost you a motza to do it right. you cant put a RB30 straight in as it will need an ecu and tune at a minimum.

2nd hand motor, pop it in, rock on out.

Yeah but the easiest thing to do is just put 2 new conrods in, take sump off and undo 4 bolts and there out, then the head just goes straight on and hook everything back up, then I can build up the rb3O I got

Old 253's and low tech stuff may be that simple but i cant see an RB25 being that simple due the clearances etc........But hey, prove me wrong :D Good luck either way.......... 2ND hand motor seems the simplest!

Okays guys well because my patrol had a RD28TD in it the rb25 swapped straight over, well im picking up a rb30 N/A engine for pretty cheap, i dunno whether to just re ring it and new big end bearings because that can be done pretty cheaply. Or just throw it in and boost it and buy a bottom end thats been done already when one comes up for sale? Also what should i get done to the head? Its had new coil packs but ive heard there no good and i should use spitfire ones? Also i know ill need a new ecu so whats the best bang for bang so i can look out? At the moment it just has a 25 ECU but it would be waterlogged.

Thanks again.

    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
    • Hi.. Just another problem. So maybe you can help. I(my mechanic) done swap from my RB20DE NEO to RB25DET NEO. Everything is OK but we have a boost cut. Coils/Plugs are ok...AFM is ok. ECU is ok. I have Walbro 255 but it "changed" sound few months ago(you can hear it ouside) you did not hear that when it was new(maybe faulty?) Sooo...what now? What can cause this boost cut? It is even when you standing still...
