The ends of my coilpacks are damaged, i.e the carbon ends on the end of the spring,

2 Questions,

1: Whats causes this?

2: Is there anywhere i can get replacements, as i dont really have the cash to buy a new set of coilpacks.

All coilpacks tested between 0.7 and 0.9

Its an rb20 gts4.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah that looks to be whats happened. I believe they are meant to have like a dome tip, but as mine have cracked away, they are far from it. I should really have got a picture. Im worried if i get new ones for somewhere, the same will happen again. Is there a problem elsewhere?

I've no idea how many k's are on them, however the car is on 120k's and they have been replaced at some point, as they have rb25 written on the side of them in paint pen.

Am i looking at general wear and tear, or have i got a problem?

Sounds like general wear and tear. I've seen them do this before.

But i dare say being rough with them, ie dropping them, ramming them onto the plug would cause cracking issues.

I doubt you'll have much luck finding new electrodes.

If they have RB25 written on in paint then they were second hand replacements. Did they still work? You need to be saving for a new set.

Hi Sev.

Those carbon tips are not used anymore on the new coils, They just have springs.

What you could do is clean the tips up on some sand paper and stretch the spring a bit, to make a good contact.

If that doesnt work i can send you a new set of spring ,(free) as i sell nissan RB coil packs and have some spares

Send me your address details if you need them.

Cheers,

Clive

I'll have a look at cleaning them up, it was a couple of weeks ago and i've slept since so i can't remember how bad they are, i just know they wont sit flush with the top of the spark plugs.

Thanks, I'll get back to you

Good, i just didnt want to hear it was this or that that needed replacing at $$$

Yeah thats what i thought, probably from a scrapyard or something, but yeah they all test ok.

Cheers for everyone's help

the coil ends of my coil packs are all burnt out and gone, running fine on 15psi gapped to 0.8 with no missfire / spluttering.

put in a spare set about a year ago with nice looking coils etc and car was missfiring and spluttering all over the place so just goes to show you cant just judge them on just how its looks

    • Yes, I know🙄 but the sequential is not in my budget... don't want to reduce power neither, so looks like I'm stuck in the rabbit hole🤣

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
