You only need to obtain 2 quotes for repair.

If the "at fault" driver reneges paying, we already have a thread here in this NSW Subforum of traffic lawyers. Look up one of those & it won't cost much (on his letterhead) to send a "letter of demand"

A former SAU.NSW President works in that capacity & is on that list! > Abo Bob

What he should do is learn a lesson and make sure he gets insurance

Brett is giving your mate good advice; because without insurance and if he (whilst "at fault") writes off a new M5, he's up for $200,000 (even if he owns a Sh!tbox)!!!!!

Got cancelled, or lapsed?

I know in the case of an insurance company that I was well acquainted with, if a clients policy lapsed without payment up to a week 7 days, if the client paid for the next years policy, they were able to make a claim.

worth looking into- quick

Nope- wrong town.

Greenslip cover PERSONAL injury caused. IE: hit a pedestrian, school kid, or personal injury to the other person/persons in the car accident. It doesn't cover property of people involved.

You can get 3rd party property- which covers just things/objects you plough into. And you can get comprehensive that covers both your car, and things you plough into.

If you friend is in the right, and someone crashed into him, and the police have noted as such- then he will have to write a letter of demand, as Terry said, with a copy of the two quotes for the amount of money to fix the car. Give him a set time length to pay, and if he doesn't pay up gearbox his doorstep get a lawyer to start proceedings.

i have full comprehensive and always have, but i swear 3rd party property was the Green slip..... Pretty sure my neighbour Crash Bandicoot has had someone write his 4 runner off and its been covered under that?

Pull out your greenslip- says on the top- "compulsory third party personal injury insurance"

You don't need insurance if people run into you- however having comprehensive is a benefit because they will do all the work on your behalf. Otherwise, as OPs friend is going to find out, you have to do all the work to get the money yourself.

This happened to one of my friends a few years ago, except he was the one at fault.

He was sent qoutes from the other guy, but my friend couldn't afford to pay, so he was sent letters of demand, and finally it ended in court.

My friend lost the case and had to pay, but because he showed he couldn't afford it, and in doing so would cause finacial hardship to him, the magistrate ordererd that he be able to pay it off at a set rate to the other party.

Yep. CTP is for hospital bills and the like. Third party that you get from NRMA, Shannons, AAMI etc covers any other car in case of an accident (where you're at fault), but not yours. Comprehensive fixes your car too.

Driving without even 3rd party is one of the silliest things I've ever heard. It's REALLY not that expensive - and it's far more expensive if something happens and you get dragged through the courts.

As was said above, imagine you run up the arse of a brand new BMW - all of a sudden, you're getting quotes for $80,000, but if you'd paid $300-odd for 3rd party, sure, your company will NOT like you, but it's not 80k.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
