If you rotate the stand 90 degrees it shouldn't dent the rails as the force is closer to the corners, but like 'GoHard' said put it under a xmember if possible. I'm not a fan of that style of stand, have heard some stories about them

I use a sawn-off and a black ski mask....oh wait....wrong sort of car jacking. Most misleading thread title ever...

but while I'm here, I use that spot but with something in between to spread the load out a bit.

Cheers for the input Andy, also I'm sorry i misled you, must have taken so much effort to click through and look at a couple pictures.

I was thinking to put something in between too, next time i JACK it up.

GoHard: Isn't the crossmember where i am jacking the car from? That flat metal piece under the engine, that's where i put the wood and jacked the car from. It's a little hard to come from the front of the car as my plastic under tray doesn't give enough clearance, thus i went in from the side (might be able to go from the front once i get a thicker piece of wood to drive the car onto).

So i should place the stands where i placed the hydraulic jack, with some wood to help spread the weight?

Yeah some of those stands I've used and seen have started to give way. Especially the stands that are aged and have rust on the welded joints, BIG saftey risk there. I would prefer to use triangular stands as the pressure is evenly distributed across a wider base.

The stands you are using are fine, yes you can buy better ones. But jacking the car up straight and having the car on a level surface as well as where you put the stands is more important. If there is not sideways pressure on the car I really cannot see it going anywhere. BUT if you don't like them or think they are unsafe, spend the proper. $$ for a better design. Your the one who has to crawl under there.

A good spot I have always used to put jack stands is on the pivot point of the caster arms. They have a large round end that the stands sit onto nicely. They are also quite far out giving good stability.

If your cheap and don't want to buy new stands, you could use some angle and weld it to the base at the corners and the upright on each side. Kinda dodgy but I've seen it done on more than one occasion.

I have a dodgy paint picture of how to do it, but don't know how to upload it

Thanks everyone for your feedback.

I don't mind buying another set if i have to, i was planning on getting a new pair but i guess i have been lazy, i really wanted to change and flush my oil that day so i used what i had. I read their load specs before i used them, can't remember them right now, but it was enough to convince me it was safe, especially with 2 of them and a jack there too.

Blue_vl_t : That was what i was thinking, surface was flat and the force seemed to only go staight down to the base. I was more worried about that metal pin that holds the level, thought it was going to snap! But it held very well (obviously).

New stand are on the shopping list, but i was more concerned about the placement of them so that i would not harm my car in any way.

Thanks again all.

    • If I had "perfect R33 GTR" kinda money I would have bought one of the crazy expensive low mileage HJA cars, but I am sadly not that wealthy. I already picked this car out of various Skylines for sale locally, most of which were worse in some way. Only a few cars were actually better but also more expensive. In terms of buying a motor locally, I at least have the option to inspect it myself and juding the seller as a person, and used or freshly rebuilt engines that some people sell are actually ok price-wise. I knew the car was going to require work, but shit piled up real fast and I haven't even driven 1000km yet as the turbo started oiling like a bitch within a few weeks after I got the car.   I assume it wasn't actually me who cracked it, though there is no way to know when that crack formed and if the previous owner even knew it was there. Buying another 05U Block can be a gamble, yeah, but the cheapest PRP cast block is like twice or more money-wise, and billet is 3 or 3 times as much. For now I am most likely just keeping the current engine, as a rebuild or engine swap isn't happening right now. But I am seriously considering buying a second engine and selling mine in return. Might be a sweet deal at the end.
    • Hi all. I need some help buying the correct size banjo bolts for my 2860 turbos. Because whoever installed them tore up the original part, I ordered new ones of this kind, because I just figured these were the most leak-resistant option as I already had trouble with a shitty braided line. I need to know the thread size of the smaller left hole, that is the turbo oil feed connection. I found out so far that the turbo oil inlet apparently has a 7/16"-24 thread, but I cannot find any listing or description of the thread size on this line. I do not have the original bolts. I tried using the bolts that were in the turbos (the ones that were mounted with the shitty braided line) but they sit very loosely so they can't be the right thread. Means either these bolts are the wrong ones (how do they fit the turbo then? no clue) or the wraparound-lines have a different thread than the turbo oil feed itself. Help is appreciated, asking Nissan directly is obviously not going to work.
    • EDIT: PSA to whoever stumbles upon this thread. It is in fact a crack in the block that caused this concern. Just letting you know. In my case, a few cm long hairline crack going horizontally above the turbo oil feed. Classic RB shit I guess
    • Might as well pop in some cams, head gasket, head studs, and a flex sensor. Full send.
    • Yeah I spent close to a year finding one. I was even tempted to buy a RB25DE N/A head and port it out. That latter option, could still be an option.
