I have a friend with a really nice clean 1990 300zx TT that is manual, very very clean and just had it's 100,000km service with $1500 spent on everything from a fresh water pump to timing belts.

At the same time a guy in my basketball team wants my skyline and has offered me around 18k.

I could get the 300ZX for around 11k. Now the question is should I sell the skyline and buy the 300 and use the rest of the money to either retire all my debts/mod up the 300zx ? Or stay with the skyline. The 300zx hammers. I took it for a drive and its just so smooth and powerful. What are other peoples experience with 300zx's. Waz I hear your brother has one??

i had a 300zx, they are very sexy cars if you do them up right, spent about 10k on the motor, turbos cooler computer and sexy 18in alstadt wheels with some sexy front bar on it, but its to heavy and small inside to be a daily driver but nice for a weekend car.( blew the motor twice and retired after that)

300zx if you can come out in front, and the car has come from a good home.

Get a decent I/C setup on them (hard to do)

And get two slightly bigger turbz and they fly, like literally.

There are some rippers out West. They go hard with mininal mods.

Only downside is inside the cabin on a hot day it can be very warm due to the fact that your sitting next to the trans.

And all the heat comes right off it and at you... making things quite hot in summer.

Just make sure the Aircon works well i guess will fix that easily enough though :)

I've heard the same as meggala, very expensive to repair & I think if the turbo's go they have to rip out the motor... could be wrong~ Anyhow driving wise, I've driven one with a few mods, I think it had around 220Kw at the wheels, and they do feel very very heavy, and very cramped "but that's problably coz I like my pasta & I'm 6ft~", and not something I personally could drive everyday. But I think when done up nice & simple, and not toooo ricey they look awesome, much nicer the a line.

if you're mates done the timing belts I'm sure he'd have taen the opportunity to give the engine a thorough checkover... (since you don't wanna pull an engine out of a zed often, too painstaking and intricate). and I reckon it'd be in OK condition.

Also how good a mate is he? If its a lemon, you can always ream him for it later :)

I'd go the zed n be debt free, NO CAR IN THE WORLD, regardless of whether fireworks come out of the exhaust when you revved it or whatever can make you as happy as being debtless :D

Well i'll just be honest, even if my opinion doesn't mean shit :D

Z'eds are crap i reckon.. might go hard in TT, but bitch to work on and ugly as shit.. its only really a 2 seater two so no rear seats even if you just want to put stuff on them. Look like some 80's ferrari gone wrong.

you seen the inside of the engine bay there? you can't even reach the oil filter .. $expensive service costs.. hence probably why he just paid $1500 for a major service when in most other nissans it would be around $800.

$11k is a good price though.. but if u want something cheaper there are many more practical options if you ask me. Get an R32 or something.

hey jevan

yeah my bro has a TT Z32

in one word: crap

electrical problems, overheating problems, cramped engine bay

a wire broke in the wiring loom last month and we had to remove the entire loom and replace it with one from the wreckers. TOOK BLOODY AGES and this is a common problem apparently with the overheating engine bay.

this aside they go vary hard..

honestly jevan your R33 is a very nice car and i wouldn't sell it

Waz.

so you reckon they're crap waz??? heheh. Interesting...:P jealousy is a curse.....

I've got a z32 and yes, have had issues in the past. Mostly related to age and heat - something that ALL internal combustion motors will suffer from. I've put a twin pass alloy radiator in and found that once on a spirited 40 degree day drive it was the Commodores and Supras running hot whereas the zed was sweet.

Heat related issues I've had include water hoses, Ignition module, radiator, heater core. I've had all my plugs changed as they were all rusted out when it was cleaned with a high pressure water hose when it was first imported.

Performance is great - top end it holds its own (300kph) and I've done a 12.7 down the quarter just with a zorst, boost, air filter and a tune.

In a nutshell, I wouldn't trade my z32 for a Line - unless it was a R34 GTR.

Good luck with the decision!

mate of mine got his z32 at the same time as me, and since he's had his he's paid about 3 times as much as me for maintenance etc. His is NA tho and he tends to drive like a fallace.

zeds a sweet cars, i love the 280x, but if you wanted the best of both worlds buy a Z31 which came with the RB20DET  hehe then you'd have a nice engine in a nice car, and you'd get along with both the zed boys and the line boys. Did I mention Z31's look horn when done up oldschool GT style?

i actually took my brother's zed today to work with me and i tell you what the visibility is absolutely shockign through the back windor and side windows. there are 2 massive blind spots and it just doesn't feel as smooth and practical to drive as my r32...

lol I have the same problem with my current car, at first its a nightmare, and you nearly have a heart attack every time you try to change lanes, but after a week you learn how to adjust your mirrors, and it isnt so bad

    • I've looked up the parts number (41011AL501). It's around $700 OEM. Usually our Infiniti G35 here in Canada have interchangeable parts with my Stagea but the parts number are not the same. I have looked around and it seems the JDM 2005 V35 Skyline (which is the same as our G35) has the same caliper but I cannot confirm. And I can't find a repair kit. The inner brake pads drags on the rotor, seems to be rusty piston. Thanks for the info by the way
    • This coupled with 6-9 speed autos with ridiculously short gearing is why these modern shitbox cars always seem so fast off the line. If it wasn't for those things, Raptors would not seem fast. The problem we have is there is a driveability gap between a more gentle take off and a wheelspinning sideways launch. The difference between ankle flex required to achieve one and ankle flex required to achieve the other is about 0.5°.
    • Yeah I think I'm also with the opposite here. It's 'hard to keep up with traffic' because in the real world I'm accelerating with 15% throttle and they are pinning it. It feels like I'm being an overt dickhead at anything above 15% throttle, so the car sounds like I'm being an overt dickhead to keep up with/get ahead of traffic when I'm really just trying to drive with traffic. There would be no issue 'keeping up with traffic' if we used the same level of throttle input/aggression to drive around. People really do just drive around with their foot nearly pinned in econoboxes.
    • To be fair it's the other way around. 300kw is boring in a modern Golf or BMW. They are so competent / well-engineered / devoid of emotion that you have to go stupid fast to feel anything. Whereas the <300kw RB still makes all the right noises and it feels good to drive. Can pull off at the lights with the turbo whooshing and the blow-off pssshing and feel like the coolest kid on the block. Just don't look to the side where you'll see the bored housewifes in their shitbox Yaris/Corolla/Camry that kept up because you didn't go fast at all
    • 300kW is so boring in a Skyline, you'll get spanked by someone's mum's Golf with Alibaba pipes, and an email tune.
