Has anyone used PMU with Alcons ? I use Pagid RS29, they perform excellent, but why not try something different.

By the way anyone interested in group buy for Pagid RS29 http://www.jdl-brakes.com/nissan-skyline-r32-r33-r34-gt-r.html

Yes I am using the pmu club racers with alcons. No squealing whatsoever, heaps of bite when cold on the street and excellent on the track!

How much could you get the pagids for in a group buy? And how would they compare to the club racers? I find there is no reason to swap them out for a different pad on the street as they are totally street able and ready to go when you hit the track

I have to check with JDL.

Discounted price is £269 for front pads http://www.jdl-brakes.com/pagid-rs29-front-pads-for-alcon-6-pot-caliper.html and £255 for rear http://www.jdl-brakes.com/pagid-rs29-pads-for-alcon-4-pot-caliper.html but I'm sure we can get better price if there are 2-3 buyers.

Are people changing/upgrading their master cylinders with these big brake kits?

Changing from 242 to 262 (yes laugh away people :woot: ) on the Honda required me to upgrade the booster and MC as well.

Before doing so, the pedal was very low and spongy even after bleeding.

Any luck with part numbers of PMU pads ?

As it happens there isn't a rear pad at the moment in the PMU club racer pads, so I got two sets of fronts as the rear pad is the same shape as the front, just shorter, so I will cut them down to suit (have done this before, very easy)

There will be a pad coming soon for the rears, but I can give you the front pad number if anyone needs it.

Have any of you thought about contacting PMU in Southport QLD for your pads?

I spoke to them about getting some pads for my newly accquired LeMans Daytona Prototype Alcon calipers.

I didnt know the pad shape or anything (custom setup going on an R32 GTR), so here is how i went about it:

Emailed alcon usa [email protected] and told them what calipers and size rotors (diameter and thickness) I would be using and asked them what pad shape and thickness i could use.

They should answer your questions in a coulpe of days. Should be easier with an off the shelf kit.

Alcon usa also have a list on their site which gives you comparison part numbers so you can see what the part number would be for pagid=raybestos=pfc=brembo etc.

Then take the part numbers alcon has given you with the max thickness they have given you and send an email to PMU [email protected]
Tell them what you are using the car for and they will recommend a compound for your use. Unless you know what compound you want to run. Then tell them you want a quote and lead time, and they will fix you up.

With mine, because they are motorsport brakes which i will be using on the street mainly, with quite a few track days in mind, they suggested the HC+. But because they dont normally make that pad shape in that compound, they can get them made and brought in from Japan in 3 to 4 weeks, at a fairly decent price too might i add.

So if you can plan ahead, this is a very good option.

Hi Roy

Wheel alignment is good, had that done recently with new rs3 rubber and have front and rear new alcons. The ride hight is fixed with the stune suspension so not sure what I can do about that. The car does stop straight under hard braking as in Im not wresting the steering wheel or anything, its just the rear end feels like it gets light and squirms a little under very hard braking. Ive gotten use to it now but at the start it was a little weird. Ive tried lower rear tyre pressures and that helped a bit but I would still like it to be more stabble. Stiffer front springs or higher at the front maybe?

Nice surprise Alcon 6 pistons 365 mm fit with OEM R34 GTR wheels : http://www.skyline-forum.de/showthread.php/18568-Alcon-big-brake-kit

They fit, but not a good idea. Only takes a very small stone to get between the caliper and the wheel and it doesn't fit.

Does anyone plan to order front and rear kit from JDL ? I think, if there are more buyers than me, we can get better price.

I'm interested to order this kit http://www.jdl-brakes.com/special-offer-alcon-adv-extreme-brake-kit-front-and-rear-nissan-skyline-r32-r33-r34-gtr.html, so if you haven't ordered yet please PM me, and we may ask for discount

Me and V8cat have already ordered and received them but the discount wasn't that significant (100 GBP) considering how much you end up spending with shipping and taxes.

But the brakes do look amazing and should be fitting them on shortly once I get my PMU club racers.

    • You are selling this? I have never bought something from marketplace...i dont know if i trust that enough. And the price is little bit "too" good...

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
    • By "reverse flow", do you mean "return flow"? Being the IC having a return pipe back behind the bumper reo, or similar? If so... I am currently making ~250 rwkW on a Neo at ~17-18 psi. With a return flow. There's nothing to indicate that it is costing me a lot of power at this level, and I would be surprised if I could not push it harder. True, I have not measured pressure drop across it or IAT changes, but the car does not seem upset about it in any way. I won't be bothering to look into it unless it starts giving trouble or doesn't respond to boost increases when I next put it on the dyno. FWIW, it was tuned with the boost controller off, so achieving ~15-16 psi on the wastegate spring alone, and it is noticeably quicker with the boost controller on and yielding a couple of extra pounds. Hence why I think it is doing OK. So, no, I would not arbitrarily say that return flows are restrictive. Yes, they are certainly restrictive if you're aiming for higher power levels. But I also think that the happy place for a street car is <300 rwkW anyway, so I'm not going to be aiming for power levels that would require me to change the inlet pipework. My car looks very stock, even though everything is different. The turbo and inlet pipes all look stock and run in the stock locations, The airbox looks stock (apart from the inlet being opened up). The turbo looks stock, because it's in the stock location, is the stock housings and can't really be seen anyway. It makes enough power to be good to drive, but won't raise eyebrows if I ever f**k up enough for the cops to lift the bonnet.
    • There is a guy who said he can weld me piping without having to cut chassis, maybe I do that ? Or do I just go reverse flow but isn’t reverse flow very limited once again?
