just wondering if any of you have swapped out the standard driver's seat in your V35?

if so which seat have you installed/seat rails used, etc.

i am considering doing this as i find the standard seating position quite 'high up', and with helmet on and correct fairly upright driving position the helmet brushes up against the roof - not good! and yes i realize it will involve side-airbag delete.

i am fairly tall (193cm/6ft3) and about 90kgs, and as far as i know there are no shops in Adelaide with Recaros or Brides in stock for me to test sit in. not sure if i would need the XL models?

Are you wanting fixed back or recliner?

Most of the Brides I have seen coming into the country are copies.

Damn good copies too.

I believe the real brides are not ADR, where as the copies are ADR, go figure?

I have Recaro at my work, and have had a bit to do with then in the 3 years I've been there.

The Australian Distributor for Recaro is Ideal Seat Company.

Not all of the seats shown on the RECARO.jp site are ADR compliant.

Go to http://www.idealseat.com.au/ to view the ADR approved range.

We only sell the recliner seats at my work, not the fixed back, so don't know too much about fixed back

If you call Ideal, and ask for Len, he is thier engineer, he can walk you through the mounting and any airbag wiring if needed.

In the listings you will see S, M, L - this refer to the base size, based on your above description, you are wanting the L base.

If you looked at say an Expert L through my work, installed with QLD compliance, you'd pay ~ $2700 for 1 seat installed.

Not with the Recaro's you won't, Len will have a wiring diagram for position sensors and/ or airbags in seat - In the case of air bag in the seat, its usually just a diode installed to the factory airbag wiring to trick it into thinking its still there.

You can get Recaro Ergomed seats with airbags in them, but are exxy as, were talking ~4k just for the seat.

I have a recaro driver side seat that came in my v35 coupe from japan so its got the rails with it, its half leather half suede/cloth style in black. Condition i would say above average no rips or tears, Wont mind selling it if anyone wants just pm me.

located Brisbane

cheers

I have Euro 2 Bride seats with V35 rails in mine. I sit about 2-3 inches lower now than the original seats and they are much more comfortable for every day driving. I sit in the seats, not on top of them.

Does it use electric adjust?

Can you post up pics?

I love the Ergomed DS. I was considering installing them in the Maxima whenever the factory seats would wear out but that never happened. If I were to replace the ones in my V36, it would be for the same reason and with this particular model.

If you can, I would suggest you replace the factory seat with a Recaro ASAP. 2 reasons:

1. You get a top seat that will be comfortable, and will hold you in position.

2. If you ever sell the car, remove the Recaro (to fit to the replacement vehicle), and refit a (near) perfect factory seat, which will improve its resale value.

I can but I won't. I don't have any problem with the existing seats. They are comfy and hug nicely so that satisfies your first point. Aside from that, I don't really care about selling the vehicle. I was really attached to my old Maxima and I'm of the view that my decision to go with the V36 was partly subconsciously trying to hang on to that Maxima. There was a lot of sentimentality in it and it's carried across to this guy now.

thanks for the info scotty nm35 and futo gt :)

not sure whether to go fixed or recliner, reclining ones are almost 2x rrp of fixed models. narrowed down to i think:

*bride zeta III typeL

*bride zieg III typeR LowMax

*bride gias II LowMax

*recaro profi spg xl

..i think i'd prefer bride as i love the 80s style gradation pattern :)

oh and no im not interested in anything copy/replica/ripoff.

ok i will put this another way, can you mod plate them?

futo, think i know who and where you work . you do a lot of trucks correct?

As in me, myself mod plate them?

No, we have engineer come onsite, checks install, mounting bracketry and mounting hole positions, and if changing from 3 1/4 bench, and we install seat belt stalk instead of lap sash, checks the threaded point installed, then writes out blue plates.

Done a few trucks and Winnebago's, but mainly 4wd's Chris.

bear in mind if you have airbags in the seats you will have issues with that system when you swap the seat out.

Just as a note, I just installed a Recaro Cross in to my 01 V35 Sedan, the coupe base is the same as sedan, and there is no airbag in the seat, just a position sensor for the driver airbag in steering wheel. For this I just uninstalled the position sensor assembly (4 bolts) from the factory seat and simply placed it under the seat still plugged in. Very Easy to do, no airbag light.

whilst i am not going to get into an argument about this I am going to make a point.

you own the VERY first version of this car and later versions had bags and anti submarine devices in the seat.

so if you wish to still look cool in an accident by all means change the seat and bypass all the safety measures put in place by the factory.

if in doubt drive the vehicle to your local transport compliance and ask in person. in the case of brisbane it in in Zillmere on pineapple st.

m35 s2 axis. look there. also look at m35 s1 and the sedan.

I HAVE changed a few seats out with them and unless you see one set off they are hard to spot.

speak to anyone that has been in a crash hard enough to do the bags in these cars and they will tell you that the seat changes shape in the front .

personally i dont care if you listen or not. your car , your safety and your defect notice if its not legal to change.

Personally I don't care if you help or not... There are many faults that can develop in the airbag circuits on these cars and not every fault can be attributed to the B1161 codes (or anti submarine rams.)

Funny that Nissan have no idea what those codes mean, let alone knowing how to repair them. I have been trying to fix my particular airbag codes for 4 years so far, as have many others, and buying new seats from Nissan obviously isn't an option for most of us. If there was a simple fix to drop a resistor or diode over the faulty unit, at least the other airbags would deploy in an accident... Alas, still no information.

    • Welcome to SAU, what are you looking at buying?
    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
