Been researching RB adjustable exhaust cam pulleys so as not to be beaten around the head by the please search brigade .

Needs facts on more vs less (5 vs 3) clamp bolts and mainly what just works reliably .

Don't give a rats how pretty because not buying to look at .

Based on 5 bolts the Tomei looks the goods but mass wise the 3 bolt HKS seems popular .

It would be good to know of a safe pulley to use that also had accurate graduations because I hear some brands are not accurate .

Just the facts please , chears Adrian .

I have had two cheap Chinese no name cam gears and both were fine. I was advised to replace the bolts with better ones but the engineering supplies shop said they were already of a high quality. Once you have finished tuning you can loktite them if you are nervous. Sometimes the gradations are back to front but that shouldn't be a problem if you know what you are doing. The actual markings seem perfectly ok but in any case all the tuner is really doing is turning a little one way then the other till the dyno gives the answer. In short I see no reason to buy a $350 gear instead of a $70 one.

    • The best part is when you own the car long enough that you look back and find your OWN ham fisted amateur shit!
    • The annoying part about neglect, is when you start to replace one thing, and find ten more broken things. Ham fisted monkey repairs you normally only find out about when trying to do something unrelated! Ha ha   Neglect you can kind of anticipate the huge costs to fix it all. Ham fistedness is normally a shock the first time your work on a new old car, as everything "looked" good before.
    • For DBA, check out their guide table here. https://dba.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Direct_Replacement-Guide-2021.2.pdf   Additionally they have some other guides and info on how to make sure you choose the right pad.
    • Sorry, just assumed that talk of coloured pads meant EBC red/green/yellow/shit stuff. I don't know the DBA pads, but it's a reasonable bet that they will be OK. DBA make good stuff generally. Those 4000 series rotors I linked to are very good. I may well replace the RDA rotors I have with those when required.
    • The average previous owner for these cars were basically S-chassis owners in the US. Teenagers or teenager-adjacent. I often tell people that neglect is easier to fix than something that was actively "repaired" by previous owners.
