Hey Guys,

I just wanted to make you all aware for those that are considering putting D2 Coil-overs on your car or for those that have.

I have these on my car and they were purchased back in October last year so they are just on 6 months old.

Have any of you had any issues with this particular brand?? I have been looking over the net and have seen threads which are not good.

One of my fronts has failed - leaking oil from the top collar. It is everywhere in my inside wheel arch.

I am trying to go through the motions of a warranty claim now but have not heard anything back at this point - who would of thought it would take so long to make decision that the unit is F^&**# and needs to be replaced???

Its been about a week and still had no response. That is if they will even provide me with a response previous threads I have been reading on similar situations is that they don't even respond.

We'll see I will give it another few days.

My thoughts are this is very poor outcome for a car that travels only 20km a day to and from work, and with minimal driving on the weekends and to then have this fail. It is not even being driving on bad quality roads like Parramatta Road !! maybe then I could understand it failing a little more.

This leads me to believe these are some poorly manufactured coil-overs with bad quality components but are top dollar price.

So I guess it will be me who has to fit the bill to replace the fronts as the car is handling like shit, I wonder how long the rears will last??

I just wanted to share my experience with you all as I am tired of these bad quality companies getting away with our hard earned dollars.

Is anything made with quality in mind these days?? or is all cheap and nasty.

wow - 6 months and already buggered.. what a heap of shit.

it depends what you use your car for, do you track much? or just daily drive?

i'm getting myself a set of BC BR racing coils this week, for just over $1000 and they are a great quality product for what my needs are.

stance coils also are good, you can drop the frame on the ground if that's your thing. KW3's are very good, but cost a lot more money.

check out myg37.com, those guys in the states have a shit load of knowledge on our cars.

6 months? Wow i was thinking of replacing mine with D2 coilovers soon (Mine are slowly leaking) Might look into it more now. Most things i read where good!

Have a friend with a Type R Integra who has ran K-Sport and BC Racing coilovers. K-sport were terrible, BC racing ones are good for the price.

Work friend runs D2 street spec in his Commodore and they haven't missed a beat yet, we put them in early last year.

I run Greddy coilovers at the moment, but they've been in the car since i bought it and the rears are starting to leak a tiny bit.

Maybe you just got unlucky with your's, hope they get back to you soon and replace them for you,

Everyone knows D2 are rubbish, they always have been.

I just bought some blitz coilovers and couldn't be happier with them, i've had BC and HSD also on other cars and had no problems with them either, they seem to be the 3 brands that are decent in the cheaper end of the coilover market.

D2 aren't the highest quality coilovers, but 6 months is a bit much.

Things can happen though. When I worked in reatil, sometimes we would get products though that the odd one was crap through coincidence. You could just have been unlucky and received on that had a manufacturing defect.

Hi guys thanks for your reply's.

I still had no response, so instead of delaying the inevitable I bit the bullet.

I went and got some HSD for the front and all installed and I am very happy with these they feel much better than the D2's ever were.

Pretty poor outcome guess it was to be expected.

Cheers

Anyone want a pair of front D2 coilovers ...... free !! ahahahha nah only good for scrap metal !

I'd still keep them + Pics of them on your car + record of your wheel alignment (from your wheel alignment technician) > Dept Fair Trading.

If you do get compensated, at least there's no bad taste left in your mouth.

    • oh they were with that motor, you need to remove the engine to change the spark plugs (don't have to, but it does make it easier)
    • I certainly fall into the annoyed camp, but glad to hear that if it's happening at low boost then I'm not likely going to blow a turbo and end up with metal shards in my oil. Just feels like it prevents me from really driving it without hesitation and "peak" performance. Wonder if it's the VCAM, it did an impressive job of shifting the torque curve and faster spool, but maybe now it's "too fast" and there's too much air for how open the throttle is.  Based on some other threads, will also do some reading on synchronizing the actuators. They are the default actuators that come on the Garrett's and I would think they would be set the same coming from the factory, but if the turbos don't actually work exactly the same way at the same time as previously mentioned, it would be worth making sure the actuators are actuating together properly
    • I went down this rabbit hole before, ended up sourcing a motor from the UK (I'm in Japan) which also didn't function correctly. With the original motor, I disassembled it and reassembled it and it works somewhat, sometimes. What I could deduce from all my screwing around is that there is calibration of the gears on the inside of the motor and two ramps on the main gear which activate switches that operate the motor and move the sunroof either to retract into the roof or tilt. Where I got stuck was that, it seemed in my case that one or both of the switches that are activated by the ramp on the gear did not always activate and thus the motor did not move, causing it to sometimes not retract or tilt (apologies, I've forgotten which way it didn't work.).  Of course this part is discontinued at Nissan now, it's the same part in the S15 but no other models. I also contacted the manufacturer of the component for schematics - forgot the name, they're based in Gifu - but they declined to share the information due to being bound by an NDA, sadly. Looking through my pictures now, it seems I last had a crack at this in 2022. See, I so kindly wrote "open" and "close" next to the switches. If you figure it out, please do tell me. Those little switches, with the red buttons may need to be replaced.
    • It says 300ZX, does that make it an Aus delivered car? Funny how back in the day I just couldn't care less about Z32's and these days I am just in love with them. Back when Nissan was into pushing the envelope. 🤣
