Well pulling into a driveway today at an angle, i noticed that when the rear left became unweighted it free wheeled and the car struggled to get up the driveway ramp...so needs new diff by the looks of it :)

Is there anyone that has had the std Nissan diff reco'd, what can be done...who is running an aftermarket mechanical diff, names brands. I found a Kaaza dealer but its going to be about $2200 fitted for a 2-way diff

I was looking at a GTR rear cradle, friend with a 200sx was going to get the brakes whilst i got the diff. Only they need work to fit into a GTST so i didnt bother...

Id much rather a bolt in affair unless someone can point me in the direction of a mechanic that has done this modification/transplant before...as id rather not be paying for someone else to learn on my car and charge me for the process

to run a gtr diff you need to put the internals inside your std casing, then run the gtr driveshafts and hubs to suit the output on the diff. the driveshafts are biggers and run bigger slpines so you need the hubs to suit, all very easy to do once you have the parts

Clint to the rescue!!! So yoy sound as though you have done this?

A question no one has been able to answer for me is... is the GTR hub aluminium...im assuming the GTST is cast iron...so if the GTR is lighter, then i will go to the trouble of getting the hub/driveshafts etc, otherwise ill stick with a GTST diff.

...and mist how much are you asking?

Are we talking a weight difference of 50%, 100%? Im waiting for Whitelien to release the Group 4 coilovers for the R32 GTST, if i replace the hub mount then ill be able to run R32 GTR rear shocks (available) and R33 GTST front shocks (available) so seems doable...provided the weight saaving makes it worthwhile. I suppose the added driveshaft strenght shoudl be enough to warrant the change

I had my GTS25t viscous diff done by UAS for $1200 a year or two ago.

Before i had it done i would spin the wheels in the wet constantly and when accelarating through corners it would spin one wheel followed by the other and then heaps of sideways action.

Now i have to do nasty stuff to get the wheels to spin and through corners i can hold the throttle nearly flat without going sideways. Going up a gutter where one wheel is left hanging and the other planted it pulls up without ANY wheel spin. Even after a year or two (i forget how long i have had it) it will still skip the wheels ie lock up when you are turning and you apply some throttle. As far as i know it is a GTS25t diff housing with GTR internals and a clutch pack, call John Penlington and ask him since cant remember the story.

    • I'll probably be putting the shit box back on the dyno again soon, I want to dial in the closed loop boost control properly. I'll have a camera facing the car/motor for fun too. Just note, there are essentially 3x 10AN inlets going into the catch can and 1x going back to the intake pipe. Most of the time the catch can "return" to the sump actually is the crank case breather, pushing air out.
    • I have the R3C with a Nismo slave and by no means does it behave like a stocker, it ain’t THAT bad. On take off just give a bit more throttle than you would say a coppermix and it’s fine. It will not slip though.   
    • Okay. Final round of testing done. Got a friend to hook up a fancy scanner to the car and we also ran some compression and leakdown tests, she is healthy.  The MAF was definitely the culprit. So for future reference anyone with similar issues that find this thread. I suggest the following steps, in order of affordability:   Check your spark plugs for any fouling, replace plugs if they are bad or re adjust the gaps making it narrower (0.8mm would be good). Check every coil's resistance with a multimeter. It can be done by probing the IB and G pins on the coil pack. Resistance should be around 1.4 (+/- 0.1) Ohms Check the MAF. If you have Nissan connect or a good scanner with the 14 adapter it should allow you to see the voltage on the MAF reading should be around 1.1 - 1.2V when car is idling. But if you don't, buy a new MAF from Amazon and test, then return it. (For instance, I got a Chinese one for $40 that was reporting 1.3v on idle). If you still have scanner, you can run tests on the injectors to see if they are working, just remember to unplug the fuel pump fuse/relay and have no pressure on the line. Then listen for the noises that the injectors make. Clean/replace injectors as needed. Once you find the issue and fix, order thousands of dollars worth of OEM parts to refresh unrelated things (Optional)   PS: Thanks to the absolute legends of this forum for the responses and help to someone that went a bit over their head. (me)
