First post, Hi all;

Due to medical stuff I may only have so many years of vision left. When your eyes go a bit, your hearing picks up.

Time for a 'fun car' while I still can!!

My DC5, at any speed above 70 is like road noise gone to hell. I dont mind the sound of a nice engine, or exhaust, but road noise kills.

So, Supra's are on the list, but I hate the interior, dont mind the 300ZX; but prefer the skyline!

I want a project car, and will live with the DC5 for another 6 months while i 'work on it'.

After reading an article about the suspension setup, and the bushes vs none between the R33 and the R32 rear ends, is the R32 noticibly louder on the road?

I'm hoping not, because I prefer the R32 shape, I think i'd buy a shell and put a NEO in it as the project; but if the 33 is quieter, It wins hands down (and saves me the engine swap work).

Anyone have experience with both and care to comment?

Nice 2.75" exhaust with a couple of resonators to hear the engine but keep it freeway silent..... I can see it now :P

Advice is greatly appreciated :)

I know my tires are noisy for sure; but I notice if I put 3 people in the car it goes almost silent.

I say its a design flaw of the hatchback. Too much cabin room for sound to reverb. Filling it up with people helped.

the 32s are usually noisier than 33s (when fitted with the SAME exhaust system) as the 32s run a smaller 2 litre motor compared to the 33s 2.5 litre and the gtrs sound different again. . there is a few skyline nuts living in my area and i can usually pick what model it is by the sound of the exhaust before i see the car

bad luck bout the eyesight mate

Yeah, but it happens. Possible organ doner down the line; but for now its pretty scary. Spend like $6k every 3 months to keep my vision. But thats what you work for eh? to keep the things you love in life (like sight).

Ive found a completely stock R33 with less than 150,000k on it. Guys asking 7. Tempting....

My current car is worth about 9 though; i was hoping to be around the $5k mark so I feel better saving the comprehensive insurance money so I can pay my surgery.

Right now I have $1k a year in insurance for a non turbo honda :P

I guess I keep looking.... maybe hit up a few auctions.... my uncle is a dealer, so auctions are very cheap.

33 is a more refined drive, however I think the biggest factor irrespective of the model will be the modifications done.

With big mufflers its possible to end up with a quieter than stock 3" system. Another big factor will be the fuel pump which is not an issue for most because their exhausts are louder than the pumps.

I think with enough dynamat, standard fuel pump setup and a well thought out exhaust either car will be suitable.

If your not familiar with skylines i'd avoid auctions. Honestly the best place to buy one of these things is off another forum member, they are more likely to have kept up with maintenance and used quality gear.

Sucks to hear about your eyes but like you said best to enjoy your vision while you can. Goodluck!

You dont konw how cheap a dealers only auction is though :P even if it needed a $4k engine swap, it'd come out cheaper.

Also looking at a 350GT, as it might be the more sensible buy, but once again, $1k a year insurance which could go toward other things.....

    • I thought Australia got rid of the "drag dodgy fuel up to 91 RON with ethanol", which is why all E10 advertise as "up to 94 RON" ? Anyway I put E10/91 in the missus' Mazda because she empties the tank weekly, when all my cars get 98RON. tl;dr - turbo - 98 RON, if you can't afford that, sell it and get a commuter car (or tune your car for 91, which no one does).
    • Yeah i found that alot of parts can be wrong or "very" hard to get the real right one. I already bought some brakes years ago on me "old" GT calipers and they were wrong too 😄  I told them too. Even send them pictures...but they said "EBC catalogue has them on my car... So i dont know what their answer will be. I call monday them and let them know that they are really not on my car. If they were they would be already on a car...
    • Welcome to Skyline ownership. Yes, it is entirely possible parts websites get things wrong. There's a whole world of inaccuracies out there when it comes to R34 stuff (and probably 33 and 32). Lots of things that are 'just bolt on, entirely interchangable' aren't. Even between S1 and S2 R34's. Yes they have a GTT item supposedly being 296mm. This is incorrect. I would call whoever you got them from and return them and let them know the GTT actually uses 310mm rotors. Depending on where you got them from your experience and success will obviously vary.
    • Hi...a bit a "development" on the brakes. I spoke to the guys where i get brakes from...and they are saying that 296mm EBC are for R34 GT-T. I then went to their site: https://www.ebcbrakes.com/vehicle/uk-row/NISSAN/Skyline (R34)/ and search for my car(R34 GT 1998 - it has GTT brakes) and it show me this USR1229 number and they are rly 296mm rotors... So now iam rly confused... The rotors i have now on the car are 310mm asi shown... So where is the problem? Does the whole EBC got it wrong or my calipers are just...idk know what?
    • Oh What the hell, I used to get a "are you sure you want to reply, this thread is XX months old" message. Maybe a software update remove that. My bad.
