God bless QLD.

I'd say the "reported by an officer of the Victorian Police" Is either A) an off-duty member of the service, as previously noted or B) Perhaps an officer in traffic noticed your car ahead of them or driving the other direction and noted the plates to report and follow up on, as it didn't warrant pulling you over at the time.

And to add to what Terry said - in NSW there is an actual EPA iPhone app. All you have to do is type in the rego of a smokey/noisey car and press 'send'.

Nek minut, letter in mail.

(As a side note, if you're a car enthusiast in NSW my suggestion would be to download that app, and report as many smokey rust buckets as you can - keep them busy with other things ;-))

What's this app called? Doesn't seem to exist.

It must have been taken down.

All the info is here on the nsw govt website though:

http://www.epa.nsw.gov.au/pollution/ReporttoEPA.htm

I have physically downloaded it before, so it did exist at one point not long ago - deleted it when it wasn't Vic specific.

As it has been mentioned. We gotta get thr harleys off the road. But the other day I am at the servo. And I hear the greatest sound to ever grace my ears. It was a purple 1970 'cuda with a blown 605 cube hemi pulling her along. I want to know how it was legal to have something that loud on the road yet I get pulled over for a skyline with a zorst.

Now you have to understand how loud this thing was. I heard it honest to god 3 minutes before I saw it. When it finally came to view, I rolled into the servo running on this monstrous mechanical camshaft lobing at around 2000rpm. Three people filling their cars up threw their hands over the ears. People inside the serrvo started coming out as they had no idea what it was.

This car was in fantastic condition. I got talking to him and told me it had 1400 hp and 800 ft pnd of torque. The kind of numbers that could dwarf nearly any car on this website AND be legal.

Just because it is a classsic or he may have some fancy hot rod rego makes it no less of a distraction to drivrrs as my car ata tenth of the volume. So how can they justify making it legal. Even if it only gets driven once a month or whatever on the rego it might have. That one drive a month would scare more drivers then I could in a year If I tried

Don 't be fooled mate; these guys get hit by the EPA just the same.

If he's managed to get an engineering approval for it; as soon as he gets stopped for a stationary noise test; he'll be screwed. They'll go over it with a fine tooth comb, and give him enough defects to put him off the road.

It's not about pointing the finger at someone else who's making noise; it's about making sure yours is compliant.

Oh no I am not pointing the finger. Simply saying that the hot rods and harleys seem to get away with it. As I have never seen one of either that would be legal volume so I assumed they had a permit

A nd if that was the case, I was complaining about how their cars at 5x the volume are not a problem and mine is

I really don't think they do; I know a bunch of guys running cafe racers, & Harleys, let me assure you that they do get noticed.

I've had bikes with noisy pipes, and even though they've been ADR legal I've been given a hard time.

Hot Rods are also able to have club rego, and this bypasses a bunch of requirements.

The fact that they don't get get pinged, is largely related to the amount of usage these types of vehicles get, and also when/where they are used.

yeah this is the main reason....

Brisbane and its suburbs is not exactly what u'd term as small plus these are definitely not their daily rides so....

so if you have a Ferrari or Lambo or a Zonda or a anything exotic and loud from the factory you can get done for EPA?

Those cars are loud as a raging porn star, so if you get an EPA notice how does that work in the scheme of things for noise?

    • Welcome to SAU, what are you looking at buying?
    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
