Great work by Williams to get a front row lockout. Going to make for an interesting race. We'll get to see how the mercs handle traffic (hamo) when they are actually racing for position and not just having the traffic move out of the way. We'd sometimes see Vettel really struggle in traffic and only blaze away once in open air. Wonder if the mercs will do the same.

ffs Ch10 missing all the pit stops

Yeah that was fairly shit.

"And now we see the drivers heading in for their first pitstops, I wonder if........."

Chanel 10 logic:

"I think its a good time to grab our first commercial break"

*conversation may not be 100% accurate. I know how much people like accuracy :)

That race had the potential to be great, then It was rather boring. Hope these Mercedes start breaking soon. A few issues are starting to appear. Imagine if they lost the Drivers championship now. How would you feel being Rosberg/Hamilton to have an unbeatable car for half the year and still lose

i think that would be amazing...

yeah what annoyed me is that williams decided to aim for 3/4 and not bother covering the mercs... pretty much let them win and manage their cars reliabilty easier...

Well the Williams are harder on types so they probably tried to stretch it out to improve their later pace/grip

Funny how there was no replay of what actually happened when Kyvyat's (how on earth do you spell it) suspension let go

Kimi having a very boring year in the Ferrari so far. In the back of my mind I thought this might happen but really hoped it wouldn't

Kimi used to be hugely fast, and even looked the goods in the Lotus. But its beginning to look like he only went to Ferrari to retire and really isn't terribly interested. Will be huge lols if they dump him again mid-conract!

Couldn't agree more about Williams whole approach to racing there. That was shit. I know they needs a good points haul, but someone needs to tell them you get more points for 1st or 2nd than 3rd & 4th... The team just refused to take the race to Mercedes. Dissapointing, and probably pretty stupid, because their car was obviously very well suited to that track. They may not get another chance for a win until Monza. They had the pace to match Mercedes, their tyres didn't grain any more than Mercedes. They just didn't bother trying to race them from the pit wall. Two thumbs down Williams. If you don't race to win, what's the point?

From the Beebeecee:

Mercedes, realising they were able to look after their tyres better than Williams, brought Rosberg in on lap 11.

Had Williams responded with Massa on the next lap, the Brazilian would almost certainly have been able to rejoin still ahead but Williams were worried the two remaining stints would then be too long for their car.

"From all the information we had at that point and everything we knew at that time and now know, I don't think we could have got to the end of the race by doing it," head of vehicle performance Smedley said.

"Even the strategy we did, we were managing tyres and tyre wear, trying to keep wheelspin and lateral acceleration down in certain parts of the corner with driving styles, with electronic settings.

"So it would have been fairly gung-ho and brave to have gone for it on that lap, and you look like a bit of an idiot if you finish your tyres with five or six laps to go and cars come streaming past you."

It did look all a bit weak kneed but there again the constructors is tight:

1 Mercedes 301

2 Red Bull Racing-Renault 143

3 Ferrari 98

4 Force India-Mercedes 87

5 Williams-Mercedes 85

6 McLaren-Mercedes 72

7 STR-Renault 12

8 Lotus-Renault 8

9 Marussia-Ferrari 2

10 Sauber-Ferrari 0

11 Caterham-Renault 0

What chance Ferrari will dump Kimi for Kyvet - does Alonso get to pick his team mate again and say no like he allegedly did to Hulkenberg?

How the f*k are RBR 2nd in the championship with all Vettel's DNF's

Still trying to figure out how TR has so few points given the are often as not quicker than the grown ups in the other team.

Also Horner has tipped a bucket on Renault. Next year Infiniti RedBull Honda??????? Apparently not.

"We need to work together as partners. There will not be another engine in the back of the car next year, but we want to be competitive and we want to run at the front," said Horner.

"Something needs to happen because whatever's being done there at the moment isn't working.

"It's not our business, it's not our responsibility. We're the end user and it's just frustrating that it's not where it needs to be at the moment," added the Briton.

I think thats not really true. The Ferrari looks pretty horrible at times. Alonso struggles with it sometime and Kimi is probably in the same boat as Vettel. Vettel is not all of a sudden just a crap driver. He is struggling a bit in the car, where as Dan is doing much better.

I think Kimi's intentions at Ferrari were to be fighting at the front, Lotus was never going to have a good car this year. But its not turning out right because I think the car (and the engine to a degree) arent as strong as some people thought, including Ferrari themselves.

Last year when Kimi won the Aus GP, I watched every driver going around turns 3 and 4 and pretty much every one of them was sliding the car around. Kimi was unbelievebly good around those 2 corners, was so planted and nice around the corner.

This year the thing was sliding all over the place. I think its just 50% the car (new regulations alot to do with that) and 50% not suiting his driving style

I am a pretty big fan of his though lol. But still I don't think he is the kinda guy that would be in Formula 1, JUST to be there

The walk of bishes was the best so far this year. :)

It's pretty funny though, have all these girls lined up clapping just to have 3 drivers and a team member walk straight past. I don't get it, but I'm sure not complaining lol

I am (well, was I guess) a big Kimi fan. He just isn't doing the job at all this year in the Ferrari. Rationalise it any way you want, but after 8 races his best result is 7th and avg finishing position is 9.5 - just in the top 10! Alonso on the other hand, has been on the podium once and has a string of 4ths. How bad can the car be?

Kimi is a woeful 12th in the WDC only ahead of shitboxes like Lotus, Sauber and co. Not exactly impressive.

Last year everyone was comparing him to Alonso...All I can say is that Lotus must have been a good thing!

Vettel, as you point out, is clearly struggling this year too, but his stuggling is a position or two behind his team-mate when his car doesn't have obvious problems. It's not at all comparable to Kimi's (lack of) performaces.

    • The average previous owner for these cars were basically S-chassis owners in the US. Teenagers or teenager-adjacent. I often tell people that neglect is easier to fix than something that was actively "repaired" by previous owners.
    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
