At what point did i remove anything? wastegate was already hooked up to exhaust manifold, just didn't have the nipple on the pipe from the cold side of turbo routed to the wastegate to add pressure to open it, meaning it was boosting uncontrollibly and fuel cutting/backfireing when it overboosted. Hence the need for the wastegate to be hooked up so it can releive pressure, yet i'm discussing ways to silcence the wastegate noise as it's obviously noticable as external atmo gates are. You can add your opinion about the car, not about people in the thread because who the f**k cares about that.

ok so you bought the car like this, weird....I take it you got it real cheap....

anyway you have enough brains to get this far..well done, now think for a minute, how does one normally silence an exhaust noise?

Do as the others say . Plumback then Put a high flow cat convertor on it, that will not only make it legal but quieten it down a lot as the coppers here WILL eventually get you (plus fine)and you will end up starting a thread saying " how do I get defect notice off my car"

indeed i did, 4k for r33 import with 80 thousand k's on the clock with every pannel straight, interior in perfect condition and a newly machined head because the stock turbo pop'd. It was sitting since 2007-2012 before previous owner worked on it again (still has 2007 rego sticker on windshield). I knew it'd be a project car and i'm slowly replacing all the parts, engine compression is spot on, no missing like some rb's, no turbo shaft play or signs of oil seeping in, only real issue is the ebay turbo (who knows how long she'll run for) which i'll replace when i get a chance. I'm obviously aware of a muffler baffle/silencer as i mentioned it before, but have no idea on what brands/products are good/effective, Or if anyone else has tryed to do it alternate ways which is why i'm asking opinions.

Yeah i'm aware the risk it runs against the popo's and in perth they're cracking down on modified cars hard. The abundant noise is why i created the post, but as i mentioned earlier i'll take it to the exhaust shop tomorro and get a quote and revisit my options.

Yep ok I see that would be crazy loud (can't get the link to work ) just go to decent exhaust shop if u want it legal otherwise if in Perth it's not an issue u could play with mufflers just for the gate I guess

I still dont get why your trying overcomplicate the issue by trying to add mufflers into ur screamer when sinple solution you want sound like befre plumb it into exhuast.

Also looks like there was a gasket on it at one point can u see anywhere that it may have been plumbed into before u got car. ?

No, from my understanding people usually weld a pipe up and route it back to exhaust. Very unclear on this gasket though, people also weld up pipes with silcencer in them and vent to atmo.

welding pipes and routing stuff to me is overcomplicating as i do not have my mig anymore, Saying that it's looking like the only legit solution, just searching through all avaliable options before i chop things up though.

Yeah there would have been a gasket on the wastegate outlet flange, you can see the leftover from the old one.

Not sure where you would get a new one from. Probably whoever makes the gate

so just to clarify, before your waste gate was connected car was quiet.

So previously it was running a shit load more boost. Why did you connect it? To make it run less boost for any reason?

Yeah it was overboosting, Too much air not enough fuel. stock fuel injectors couldn't keep up which caused a fuel cut at 7k rpm and backfiring/stuttering. While sounding like a rally car with antilag when it combusts in your exhaust manifold and spits flames, it's very bad econemy. Also very bad for the engine when it's boosting random psi.

It was quiet because what he means by "Connecting waste gate" is he put the pressure lines to it, now the waste gate opens to properly control boost, but it is venting to atmo as no one bothered to plumb it back.

My guess is that the guy bought all that stuff on ebay second hand, and the turbo was never plumbed back considering it was bought as a project after the car was purchased after it had been sitting for practically 5 years...

When this is done, they are called exhaust systems. Exhaust shops do this kinda work everyday!

Seriously dude, swallow your mentioned pride & take it to an exhaust shop & get them to plumb the wastegate pipe into your down pipe. While your there, have them install a cat converter & intermediate muffler to keep the busies & the neighbours happy!

yep kind of looks that way...guy buy stuff off ebay, realises it needs some major tuning and gives up on it...

please dont say its running a stock ecu....

this is more than likely your rev limiter, ooorrr does your ECU let it rev to 10,000RPM? That's why you have fuel cut.

    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
