Hi Guys

So I'm planning to turn up the boost soon to about 16-18psi with a high flow and supporting mods

Getting a service done, wanted to make sure the engine is built to handle it and will pump out 250rwkw all day every day reliably.

This is what I've changed/am changing for "insurance" and my power goals so far

- full 100k service done , gates racing timing belt

- full fluid flush

- exhaust manifold studs upgraded to toyota ones

- splitfires

- metal intake to turbo

- blitz return flow intercooler

- 3inch exhaust from turbo back , gtr cat

- ebc & gauge

- new vacuum lines(old ones are cracking and brittle)

- new 52mm ASI radiator

- new breather hoses

- new radiator hoses

- new rocker cover gaskets

- walbro 255lph fuel pump

- nismo 550cc injectors

- z32 afm

- craig davies transmission cooler

- mv automatics stage 2 valve body upgrade

- still deciding on tuner/engine management

Only current issues :

- Idle hunting at any temperature, never stalls

- When starting cold , sputters and low revs , needs a push of the pedal to "catch - claned AAC , cold start valve , TB etc...

- Oil Leaking around rocker covers

What are the other weak points of the RB25DET that I should address before I put some serious power through it?

I know many have made 250rwkw easily on an upopened average RB with no issues whatsoever. Just looking for what I can do to ensure reliability without opening her up as this is my daily and I want to put my foot down at any time with full confidence.

Thanks in advance

Cheers

when you say full 100k service i assume you mean waterpump, and the bearings also?

also if youve chaged the rocker cover gasket the oil leak shouldnt be there unless is coming from somewhere else

i guess the choice of ecu will be decided when you decide on tuner

looks like youve done a lot to cover yourself off

also hte half moon seals and such on the 100k service, not for any sort of safety but may be the leake, also a bitch to do on there own.

have you checked the compression or done a leak down test just to make sure there are no underlying issues with the rough idle/ start?

Yes 100km service including changing water pump , bearing etc... Ive changed the rocker cover gaskets, but the rocker cover bolt seals were all hard and out of shape.... It was also missing two bolts so Im going to by the gasket again , half moons and bolt seals + bolts. Will then be able to see what else is leaking

no i havnt actually - thats a good idea, i think i may get a compression test done.

I wouldn't worry about a comp test. It will just show up if you are on borrowed time, which technically you are until you do a full rebuild, and it's not like you will do that as a precautionary measure.

Boost it up, hope for best, but to be sure start planning an engine build in the mean time.

why do you always find a need to post the same thing on nissansilvia.com also?

RB25DETs will piss out 250kW at the rears anyday of the week without even breaking a sweat

ive already answered your question there. Ive also already said, "I know many have made 250rwkw easily on an upopened average RB with no issues whatsoever."

If you don't like my threads then stay out of them. Thanks

Nistune & Tune - That's it with the mods you have listed.

You'll be fine on stock over the 300rwkw's mark. (Turbo dependent)

Highflow OP6 will get your 250rwkws. All day every day

(mine does)

Cheers. Shouldnt break a sweat , and I have maintained it as best I could (never boosted above 12, oil change + filter every 5000km etc, always check coolant and oil level . always warm car up and check oil pressure before boosting) so hopefully it shall last me many more thousands of km's :)

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
