Hey people!

I have little to no knowledge when it comes to lowering a car - my old Magna was in no need of any loving!

But i recently got my new stag(and fell in love...Of course!!) But, I'd like to lower it just a little, im thinking 30-40mm? I don't want to be bottoming out or anything, just like sit a bit nicer.

Here she is:

Nice looking stag mate.

To lower it you need to get suspension which is lower. Any reputable mechanic or suspension specialist can do it.

Hit the search feature on the forum to help you decide what to get and how much it will cost.

Do you want it to be legal? cheap? for track or road use? You got some homework to do bud =)

My old 33 had Pedders lowered springs on the standard struts and that was perfect for my use. Still legal and looked better.

In adleaide, unless I read it wrong the minimum height for a stagea to be legal is only 5mm lower than stock. Also in sa you need an engineer certificate for coilovers, which no one actually gets. But keep in mind you could be defected for them.

You can find second hand sprigs for sale everywhere, I have some but am located in Sydney. You should be able to get something for under $200 if not let me know and I will send mine down but don't know how much freight is???

Thanks mate, yeah I'll have a look around! Sorry if i come across as a clueless retard but essentially that's what I am :rofl2:

Just not sure what you look for in springs? Length, type etc.

cheers!

Hahaha! Well I'll look for springs but in the mean time i'll dig up the back paving and load my boot with it ;)

Out of interest is there a guide anywhere for how to change the springs on a stag?

I did have a skim through but like i said, I wouldn't know which springs i would be after? I don't know the specs of the current ones, I just know i want my car about 30-40mm lower  Cheers!

Dunno what the compatibility is between R33,R34,Stag etc but King Spring Lows are generally 30mm lower than stock.

Same with Lovells or Auroras I believe.

If they will fit, they should do.

You are after something like this:

I use Google for most things as the answers more often than not come from this website e.g.

https://www.google.co.nz/#q=how+to+fit+lowering+springs+on+a+Stagea

but there is a Stagea specific DIY section at the top of this page and also a general DIY section here:

You said you want it legal. I have already posted you can only lower it 5mm in sa.

Search for yourself, transport sa have all of the minimum heights for all cars on a website in pdf format.

So you want legal on sa-you can't lower it.

Wow 99%!of stagea's I'm adelaide are illegal !!

And you can't tow with them at all ??

Government listing is only for auto model too looking at the track?

Could you imagine the hassles at regency lol.

This is why I keep all my cars 100% stock

Australians all let us rejoice for we are young and free !

    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
