GeeDog
A few months ago we bought a second-hand 3" dump pipe to replace the stock one in our R33 GTST. We looked under the car at the old one, then looked at the one we were buying, and thought they were the same. The other day we removed the stock one, and realised that the new one was about 6" longer. As well as this, the flange that the cat bolts to is oriented different - ie rotated on the pipe so the holes don't line up. Anyone know what this pipe might be out of? It is a commercially made one, with a brand name on it (which I can't remember - pipe is not here). The turbo end mates up fine, and the pipe runs in the right place. The welded on mounting bracket at the cat end fits to the car's mounting point, but obviously the cat doesn't fit. Any ideas on the best way to make it fit, without spending a small fortune at an exhaust shop? chilzzi
It shouldn't cost much to get them to cut the length down and re-weld the flange to match the configuration of the stock one. Just take both pipes in and get a quote. You'd expect around $50 do do that. GTSBoy
Um.....define "small fortune". What are you expecting us to tell you? That you can whack it with a hammer and it will fit? I think it is pretty clear that if you want to connect it to your existing cat then you are going to have to cut the flange off, shorten the pipe and weld it back together so it mates with the cat. If there is some left-right offset or angle difference that means you can't make it connect, then you are better off removing the cat from the rear part of the exhaust and getting the mid pipe altered to suit. 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/441186-rb25det-3-dump-pipe-what-is-this-one-off/#findComment-7241964 Share on other sites
scotty nm35
Those damn exhaust blokes... I remember back in my day we used to use muffler putty and fencing wire. Ben C34
Can't you just bolt it on and twist the rest of the exhaust to line up? Sure it will probably hit the ground but will save you a 'small fortune' Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/441186-rb25det-3-dump-pipe-what-is-this-one-off/#findComment-7242021 Share on other sites
