OK Team,

I am rather underwhelemd... No, that's an understatement.

I just went to get a pink slip in Queanbeyan, NSW, and was knocked back. Totally normal for somthing happering safety, but here's the thing...

For being too loud...!

WTF?

So this guy, who I have been going to for 8 + years now has a DB meter and has nailed me?

C'mon.. It's not a blue slip.

And also, he passed me last year in the same Skyrine and I have had a 330 n/a KW V8 that sounded like the world was comming to an end passed 3 yrs ago..

So what is the deal? Have the regulation changed that much? I though it was just the Po Po you had to worry about?

Any way, now I'm going to have to change the exhaust for a pink slip every year. It's only running 270KW. What is the point?

VENT / RANT!

Could be

1. Clamping down on Mechs that can give pink slips. The RTA could be pulling licenses more than usual for "easy" shops

2. Times are tougher than the usual so more shops are conjuring up add on business

as above I'm not very knowledgeable on NSW but I know the garages in Canberra have been loosing there license to give RWC's and are pretty tight on even minor stuff.

ask him to show you where in the inspection book it refers to noise.

It doesn't.

No new rules have come out stating anything about noise.

Complain to the rms.

Tell them you had to borrow a mate's exhaust as yours had a leak and you couldn't afford to get it fixed or something.

It's ridiculous.

Also, have heard the rms told off an inspector for passing a pink slip(which it did legally), but due to the inspector also being blue slip certified, he should have failed it for a blue slip fault.

Srsly, rms needs to getter act together.

And that inspector needs a swift kick in the rear.

/Rant.

go elsewhere - it's an inspection man, they only care about:

  • lights working
  • seat belts
  • brake test
  • no oil leaks
  • tyres above indicator

Just bring it to a performance shop, they will pass it :)

My pinkslip guy who i dealt with for 4yrs in all types of cars told me he had been getting pressure from 'someone' for unroady cars. I thanked him for my last pinkslip 2 yrs ago and I've moved on.

It's time to move on and find someone new who isn't on the radar.

My rego is due next month. Gonna be interesting since the usual shop I went to shut down and the other shop I used to go to was keen to fail me because my windscreen wipers. Mind you he sprinkled drops of water on the glass and essentially ran them dry. Pretty sure it was his technique to try sell me something I didn't need.

Bring your own bucket of water (with silicone added); chuck it over the windscreen and show him he's got crook water coming out of his tap!

For good measure as you're leaving, supply him with the phone number of the Water Board.

Oh yes, and expect him to say "Thanks" :P

Bring it to my workshop in blacktown. I have my ticket to do pink slips. All skylines welcome. anything over 250kw requires me to test drive for "safety" reasons :P $35 and i dont even need to put it on a hoist.

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
